QUESTION: Collecting Team Sets?

I am looking to start some team sets but I need some direction.
What year of card do I collect for a team?
Let's say I want to put together a set honoring the 69 Mets. Do I collect 69 Topps or 70 Topps (which show the 69 stats on the back)?

Need some help from the experts. Looking forward to your replies!

Personal opinion dictates here...........if you collect the 69 cards you will not get all the players who ended the season with the Mets that year. Donn Clendennon for instance was a mid-season acquisition........if you collect the 70 cards you would miss out on some players who left the Mets after the 69 season ended.........Ed Charles has retired for instance; Joe Foy did not play for the 69 Mets. (but is listed as a 70 card.)

The 70 cards do have all the Playoff and World series cards from 69...............This is the set I would go for.....

For the 68 Tigers I collected every card from the 68 Topps set, and then added cards from other years until I had a card from every player on the 68 roster. This is purely personal preference. I have a friend who collected the 69 Tigers because they had the 68 stats on the back. It's up to you!
