A nice ancient owl

I love the way the toning makes the owl stand out.Text

That owl is one of the coolest designs ever on a coin. Which I could afford one of those.

Great coin. That is one that is on my "someday" list.
  • Wow!! That's an amazingly clean coin. It never ceases to amaze me how a coin so old can look so magnificent.
Everything I write is my opinion.

    Looking for alot of crap.

Yeah I have never seen an ancient with toning like that either. That is pretty phenomenal.

Most of the ancient I see is on Harlan J. Berk's Website. He has a nice selection, but he is mostly high end material as well.

  • Theoretically ancients shouldn't tone like that. Natural toning like that only generally occurs on uncirs.

Circulated coins (even slightly) tend to go grey... i suspect it has more to do with storage.
  • Some day I will have one of that series, nice find image

That is a great coin Brett, do you also have the Archaic and Classical type Owls?

Is it Athena on the obverse?

Most likely. Athenian and the Owl of course are synonymous.

But i don't know jack squat about Greek coins so i defer to others.

I didn't buy this coin, it's still for sale from CNG. I just thought it was a cool design.

    Yes, the obverse is Athena.

I like the beautiful, elegant and balanced designs, but also the amount of detail and sculpting on the high reliefs. Cool!
