Anyone know the comic book hobby?

I have a co-worker who has thousands of comic books. His son collected them, and doesn't want them anymore. The guy wants to sell them.

Is there a good primer on comic books I could direct him to?

Ron I assume that you are talking about comics from the 80's? if so they are very hard to move. Look at ebay and you will see what i mean. I have thousands as well, the back issues from when i owned a shop and i would take a dime for each one.

maybe if you could tell me a lil more about what he has.

edited to add go to sgc and they have a comic book (CGC) message board. maybe there you could get a lil info as well.
    Good for you.

    I have some .12 & .15 Spidermans, Fantastic 4's etc.

CGC wants like $29 a book for entry level grading!

Either I will sell them raw or keep em.

    Loves me some shiny!

I use to collect when I was a kid.. 80's-90's stuff.. then stopped and when I was older I started buying the old rarer comics like the Giant Size X-Men.. that Hulk 181 with the first appearance of wolverine etc..

You need to be more specific regarding what he has Ron but yea most 80's stuff isn't worth much at all.

  • Ron, Try going to www.auctionforum.com !! There are a couple of guys there that deal in nothing but toys, comics & the like !! They can tell you if there is a book you can get for a reference on prices !! If they are .12 & .15 they must be mid to late 50`s early 60`s ? Look for Volume1, First issues, they will be the best prices !! And as always...condition is key !! If you do not want to do it yourself. give me the title, volume & issue number & I will see if I can some info for you !! At least to give you an idea of worth !! You can pm me if you would like !!
  • Pick up an Overstreet price guide. In newer stuff, key issues are first appearances of super heroes or super villians before they get thier own book. Most big box lots though are crammed with comics that are tough to even give away............
  • Ron, .12 and .15 comics are more early 60's- early 70's. These years always have a market. Like cards, condition and whether it is a key issue determine the bulk of a comics value. You can PM or email me a list and I can give you a little guidance if it's an issue worth grading or not.
