Goals for 2005-2006

It was interesting to read the thread on 1/1's in our various collections, and as a natural follow-on, I was wondering what everyone was envisioning as goals for their collections in the upcoming year? Some have made great strides, probably more than expected in some instances, over the past year. Going from one #1 set to five in a year is certainly far more than I could have pictured.

Personally, I'd like to continue to move toward complete 10.00 sets on both the 1970 Kellogg's BB and FB sets (got a LONG way to go, but found several in 2005), get my Sayers basic set up to complete 9s, and continue to upgrade my Payton Master set towards highest possible grade on each card. One very specific goal is to find/acquire PSA 10s on the 1977, 1984 and/or 1985 Payton Topps basic cards. ***BTW - ANY HELP ON THESE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED***

It should be fun to look back on at the next award period to see where we've gone. I'd love to hear goals and share the joys of meeting/exceeding these goals in the coming months and years.

My personal goals for my collections would be as follows...

    1957 Topps Baseball - 50% completion
    1972 Topps Baseball - 100% completion
    1975 Topps Mini Baseball - 60% completion
    1984 Donruss Baseball - 100% completion

....that's a high level look at it. What I'd like to do is continue to sell off my 'non-registry' collectibles via my eBay Store to generate enough income to upgrade and complete the sets above. Hopefully I can get there in this coming year. Knowing the great folks that are on these boards makes it a little easier! image

    1. Get the last 3 cards for my 1962 Fleer PSA 8 set.
    2. Get the last 7 cards for my 1989 Score PSA 10 set.
    3. Continue to work on my Marcus Allen raw and graded sets.
    4. Upgrade one card in my NFL rushers set.
    5. Add a few more N162s. I just started the set a few months ago and I only have 3 of the 50 cards, but I'm already in love with it and it will probably be my main collecting focus for the next 3 years or so. I haven't decided whether to go raw, PSA, or SGC (leaning towards SGC).

  • Get my 64 Topps BB to 9.0 and the 63 to 8.50.

I'm gonna sell everything and start from scratch...

    just kidding...

I plan on just plugging along as usual upgrading when I can..I'm 100% in all sets that I am serious about except for the HOF Chicago Bears set (Need the 52 Bowman Halas)...

With the recent prices on NFL HOF RC's, I'm almost to the point of being priced out of the market on the cards I need. It's good to see these card still climbing in value though..Sooner or later, they will get the $$$ respect they truly deserve...

Thank goodness i'm already at 100%...

To keep plugging away at the Favre set. Right now the master set only has about 1/5 of the total Favre cards out there...some which PSA wont grade due to thickness, alas. Finding other old packers and yount cards as well.

  • (I only collect Parkie and Topps hockey cards in addition to 1910 set and 1990 Upper Deck) (LPHockeyDream)

I did fairly well on my goals for 2005 considerating little time and money. They were :
    1. Do not added any new sets, well I started the year at 20 (already too many?) and ended at 21.
    2. Get all my sets to a minimum of 10%, got all but 3 to 10%.
    3. Get at least four sets to 50%, and I did.

I also have my own minimums on cards which I followed pretty well this year. I know I cannot afford the cards for number one rankings so I have my own standards. (1910.any card),(1950's PSA 6 and up),(1960's, PSA 7 and up),(1970's, PSA 8 and up except 1978 which is PSA 9 and up), (1984 Topps, PSA 9 and up),and (1990 Upper Deck, PSA 10 only).

    Goals for 2005/06. They are:
    1. Get at least one set to 75%.
    2. Get at least eight sets to 50%.
    3. Get at least 12 sets to 25%,
    4. Get all my sets to at least 10%.
    5. Add 9 additional sets from 1950's and early 1960's (I decided I would rather have 10% of several years then 60 - 70 % in a few) (Longer term goal is to have all Topps and Parkie sets from 1950 through 1979)

All it takes is time and money.........a lot of money.

    Best of luck to all.

    1. Get the Greatest Moments set to 8.00%. Currently at 7.93
    2. Get the 1934 Batter up set to 6.70%. Currently at 6.23
    3. Find two upgrades for my 1954 Wilson Weiners set...... hopefully Branca set from Mastro.
    4. Finish my 1953 Topps set in PSA 6 or higher.
    5. Finish my 1967 Topps Pirate Sticker set in PSA 9's
    6. Start another set like the Delong set.

    Besides this, that is it.

    1) Continue working on my Walter Payton Master set, it's getting there but I have a ways to go.

    2) Finish my Joe Montana topps master set, I only need a couple of cards and 1 sticker to reach 100%

    3) Pick up a Jim Brown psa-8 for my all-time rushers set.

    4) Finish my Terry Bradshaw basic set, I only need two cards in psa-9, shouldn't be to hard.

To continue on the work in progress of my Master Carew Set. I am not worried about Alfaro being number one. It is well desevered, but he has a tougher path to go down this upcoming year. Some of the cards i have just won't be found as the same for Randall has those as well. His high 8.92 is nice but it is inflated due to the cards he does have.

Interesting question - I've never even thought about specific goals other than to continue enjoying this great hobby and comraderie. Pertaining to any of my current set building, I get what I get when I get it and the goal is always to complete, but I have no time frame for that.

I do have a general goal of meeting a lot of board members at the Nat'l in '06. Other than that, life is good and I pray it continues to be so.

I'm at around 90% on my 8-or-better 1961, 1962, and 1963 Fleer football sets, and it would be good to finish one of those. I would also like to find a 1960 Fleer Jim Woodard card that grades an 8. That's the only sub-8 in my set, but the highest graded so far is a 6!
  • 1979 Venorlandus: 100%, #3 Alltime
    1981 Topps: 75%, #1 Alltime
    Bossy Master: 75%, #1 Alltime
    Bossy Basic: 100%, #1 Alltime
  • My Goal for the year:

To finish my "unopened" pack run from 1968 to 1975 in topps baseball with a pack from each issued series in each year with a grade of 8 or higher.

The Link below will take you to the PSA Boards 1952 Set Build, I also have made 5 slideshows each slideshow is 100 cards long, card numbers 1-99,100-199,200-299,300-399, and 400-407
Link To Scanned 1952 Topps Cards Set is now 90% Complete Plus Slideshows of the 52 Set
  • To stick with a set instead of constantly changing my mind. I have started and aborted several sets over the past year and a half or so. I have just begun a low grade (PSA 1-4) 1951 Bowman baseball set. It will be a long slow process, but I jsut need to try and stay focused on moving forward with it.

    Selling goals:

    1. Sell my 61 All-Stars PSA 8-9 set - #5 Finest All-Time
    2. Inventory and sell my raw 74, 76 and 77 set plus the partial 67, 68 sets

    Buying goals:

    1. Get the 63 set to 75% including the Rose in PSA 7
    2. Get the 57 set to 100%
  • I'm still trying to finish my 05 goals:
v252 Canadian Gum set - done
c55 set - two to go
63 Parkies - two to go
    add 12 t206 and 12 r327s - done

For next year I'd like to:
finish the above if I don't find those last 2 c55s and 63 Parkies
finish my v288 Hamilton Gum set
    add 12 more t206s and 12 more r327s
get more of my HOFers in all four sports graded
start a new pre war hockey set - any suggestions?
    C56, V252, V128-1 sets
Hall of Famers from all 4 sports
  • My goals:

Trade for 15 more HOF autos for a display I'm working on (have 5 so far).

Continue plugging away at some of my SGC graded sets without compromising my desire for cards that are nice just to get the sets done.

Find someone who'll give me something I can use in trade for this Rafael Palmeiro auto'd ball that I have, haha.

    My Goals:

Finish my 1961 Topps Baseball set in 7 or better (Currently at 60%)
Get my 1963 Post Hand Cut set to 75%
Complete 1981 Donruss Golf in 9 or better

If I could just stay with these three sets I would probably have a good chance at making these goals, however, I will probably "Dabble" in about 4 other sets all year and end up with 7 or 8 uncompleted sets and an even larger goal for 2007....

Good luck to all those with your goals, I hope we all make it.
