A ton of cards waiting for me when I got home!

It has been a strange, happy, crazy, draining, ...then a sad few weeks for me:
1. Went to a four day seminar in Las Vegas...
2. While I was in Vegas, my neighborhood took a direct hit from hurricane Wilma here in South Florida.
3. I was Then stuck in Las Vegas for an additional 5 days, as all South Florida airports were shut down.
4. Most of South Florida had no electric (i.e., cold showers, yikes!), "boil water order" little or no fresh food, no telephones, no internet, no cable, etc., plus "all-day waiting in line" for a chance at a little gasoline, and damage everywhere you look, traffic was a mess (i.e., no traffic lights), plus a 9 PM cerfew, and sooooo much more craziness!
...yet I had to suffer, being stuck in Las Vegas standing in the buffet line at the Bellagio!
5. Finally, after 9 days of Vegas, I caught the first "redeye" flight available, and landed in Fort lauderdale, ...praying that my car, that was in the middle of the long term "park-and-save" lot, was still drivable, and still in one piece!
6. Got my car (i.e., it was ok!), and while driving about 35 miles north to my home, it looked like a 'war zone', maybe not as bad as Katrina, but pretty darn bad anyhow!
7. At last! I finally got home only to find a neighbor's roof in my front yard, otherwise (i.e., just a few torn screens, totalling maybe $150 in damage!) I found no real damage to my property, I felt pretty darn lucky, compared to what I witnessed, driving that 35 miles home from the airport! All that damage! It was so sad!
8. Now, the USPS delivered mail (I don't know how they did it?), and I received "a ton" of PSA material that I had won before (and while) I went to Vegas! (Yipee! I woun't bore you all by listing my "OPC wins" LOL!)
9. ...And then the sad stuff!
My 83 year old mother, after waiting in a long line for gasoline, she slipped and fell at the Mobil gas station and fractured her pelvis. Three days in the hospital, then she was transferred to a rehab center, where she will most likely spend three to four weeks getting better.
So sad, she's such a happy little lady! Well, with lots of luv from family and friends, she will improve I'm sure and get back to her sweet self.
10. Well, no more cold showers for me! My electric was turned on (and my telephone, along with my "broadband", as I now have Internet!).
I've bid on some nice cards tonite,
edit: ...but it just doesn't feel the same!
P.S. Anyone waiting for cards from me (you know who you are), I'll get them out in the morning!!!!

I wonder that at times. I live in Chicago and I hate the cold but I always say that atleast no hurricanes come here. But I have wondered if the possibility of hurricane can outweigh the definite cold of a Chicago winter. Funny to see you verbalize my pondering.
RBD, my best to your mother. My grandma of 87 fractured her pelvis a week after I moved into my new home. She came to check it out and doesn't have the best sight and didn't see the step down to enter the living room. I felt awful but after a few months she was back up and doing great. On a side note, my grandma is 4'10", and they gave her the smallest kane you could ever imagine. It was so little and cute. Anywhoo, at least your place was in one piece, your mom is on the road to recovery and you got your plastic slabs!
I also have wondered AZ vs FL when I make my move to the non-winter states. AZ has no hurricanes but the summers are as brutal as the cold winters, no?

I also send the same sentiments to you. Glad everything else is okay, all things considered.
I'LL TELL MOM THAT ALL MY BUDDIES FROM THE PORNO CHAT ROOM

I'll suffer through a few Hurricanes for the great weather. I do think I need to buy a generator next time.
Best of luck to South Floridians...Eddie
