Found and then lost

While checking out of a store Saturday the cashier hands me a "coin" and ask if I knew what it was.
Very light weight , larger then a quarter yet smaller then a Fifty cent piece. Didn't have my glasses so handed it to my roommate , who bought it for a guarter . We get in the car and I ask him for a look after putting on my glasses. As he goes to hand it to me he drops it and it goes down between the seats.
Several attempts to retrieve it were futile.
Dated 1953 with what looked like Italian writing .
This ever happen to anyone else ? Found and lost in two minutes or less ??
