Auburn, MA coin show report

Each successive Month of this show has been deader and deader as far as dealer attendance. With competing shows again, and the location to be moved starting in 2006, the show has its work cut out. In any event the public attendance was very strong. Material looking right and priced right moved out.

I sold another 2 dozen gold coins. Took advantage in the current strength of $2-1/2 and $10 gold to move a few of those pieces out.
Funny that I was in a losing position on a number of these 2 months ago, and now they are up 20-30%. Another promotion in gear.
In the process $10 Libs in MS62 have been pounded way down to around $360 while the 63's are up close to $900.

Sold a very nice AU55 1873 CL 3 seated half for $240. One of the few better dated halves I've run across lately with 50% luster still left. Saw BigD5 and let him rip me on 4 XF/AU bust halves. He saw a light scratch on a 5th piece that I had overlooked. Good eye Darin.

Didn't buy a single coin this time out. Even though there were a number of tables not attended this show was pretty active all through the morning.

There is November Auburn and December will be the last show at this location following a 30+ year run. The promotor is looking to set up a deal with a local hall to continue the show in 2006.

This show does get strong attendance, but with so many conflicting shows right now, dealer attendance has been spotty for the past few months.

I'm not sure if I "ripped" those bust halves, but they are very nice coins for the money. imageimage Thanks again. image

I'm glad Roadrunner gave me the lowdown on the gold, AFTER I had bought a few pieces. After seeing him, I went and dumped a few early pick ups (gas is expensive nowadays image ) for a quick flip, rather than messing with them for any extended length of time. I don't do too much with gold, and it doesn't take much to toss me off the bandwagon.

I actualy bought a lot of coins at this show. Some better than typical goodies and although I paid maybe too much for a couple of the coins, those are the one's that usually disappear first.

Cape, I saw only one decent Buff. A '14-d in an old pcgs ms/65 rattler, but I didn't like the coin enough to even ask for a price.

  • I attended this show for the first time today. I didn't plan on looking for much for myself as my 11 year old son was along. He was looking for a vg-xf Peace dollar or two for his album but spotted other things he quickly became interested in. He is now keenly interested in ancients, errors, and paper money. More than one dealer was very nice to him, encouraging him and passing on a little advice. He left with 1 peace dollar and some neat old paper money. Maybe next time I'll be able to look for something for myself and meet some forum members!
  • Thanks for the report.

Great to hear the public is still very much involved.
