a question about PCGS grading

Does PCGS grade problem coins such as cleaned?
If so, will PCGS state "cleaned" under the comment?

Thanks for any inputs.

PCGS, NGC, ICG and ANACS grade cleaned coins virtually every day and they do not list the problem on the holder. ANACS will list cleaned on the holder for especially nefarious cleanings. Anyone who tells you otherwise has not been paying attention to the product in the holder.

What?! There are people who only look at the slab? C'mon...you're kidding, right?

I think it depends. We have all seen cleaned coins in PCGS holders. What we are not supposed to see is "harshly cleaned" coins in PCGS holders. I have seen some coins that were obviously cleaned as evidenced by the hairlines, but one of the first coins I sent in was rejected becouse they claimed there was one tiny spec where someone must have cleaned it long ago. It really is a dice game. PCGS rejects for "harsh cleaning."

When I was into $2.5 Indian gold coins I got some from PCGS back slabbed despite hairlines I seriously feared came from cleaning. Conversely, a couple came back BB'd due to cleaning with much lighter hairlining. That is the primary reason I stopped collecting them. The downside risk was just too huge; I had buyer remorse on every purchase when I should have felt thrilled.

Indian $2 1/2 and $5 gold coins do not have raised rims to protect the fields and tend to pick up hairline scratches.

  • IT depends They do make mistakes(PCGS). I think the mistake is overlooked mainly on who is sending it IN!!!!!

Are you going to piss off a customer who sends in thousands of coins to be gradedimage

Now while this may piss some of the bigger players off OH WELL!!!!

THAT MY STORY AND IM STICKING TO IT!!!!!!!!
