Will PCGS dip a coin for reholder service?

If you have a PCGS coin that you want to be reholdered that has a small PVC spot on it...... will PCGS dip it before they re-encase it?

I hope not. Dipping doesn't remove PVC and PCGS shouldn't be dipping coins anyway.

Maybe it was originally slabbed 65, turned in the holder, and was reholdered at 64? image

  • I meant an acetone dip to remove the PVC..... Should I note it on the submission form? What about coins in other 3rd party holders that may have a spot on them? Anyone here have any first hand knowledge? Russ, did you have to "ask" them to do it? Was it a normal submission? Just a submission to fix it? Thanks.

The MS65CAM was the second slabbing. This coin was part of a group of seven coins - four Accented Hairs, a 1965 SMS and two 1967 SMS - that showed up on Teletrade. All were hazed over from being submitted in bad flips. The seller had a $100 reserve on each, and only one sold. A few weeks later the group was relisted with no haze, and all the coins had the same cert numbers.
