71-s Lincoln Proof Dbl Die question

jdimmickjdimmick Posts: 9,783 ✭✭✭✭✭
Can one of you experienced Lincoln folk tell me the difference in the Ty I & Ty II Lincoln proof 71-s dbl die. Someone locally uncovered a 71-s Proof set with a 71-s dbl die. It looks identical to the redbook example. He is intrested in selling it as well I believe, and I would like to get first shot at it especially if its nice. I saw it quickly a few weeks ago, and want to look at the condition again, but I believe its quite nice. Also, do anyone have idea about what it would sell for : He is hung up on the redbook price listing???

Thanks

Look at LIBERTY, if the doubling is due west it's die #1, if it is slightly to the southwest it is die #2. John Wexler is selling an example of die #1 on eBay right now with awesome pictures, I happened to see it this morning and bookmarked the auction. maybe you could use that as a benchmark price?

As usual the best bet is to check out coppercoins.com. That web site has lots of facts on all Lincolns and for your questions you can just ask Chuck, the guy that wrote the book on Lincolns.

  • The 2 dies PCGS certifys are Fs 032 and 033. The picture in the cherrypickers guide of 032 is incorrect. The 033 has a complete doubling of IGWT. The 032 has doubling on god and a rpm. both have liberty doubled. The redbook price on the 033 would be a steel. The 032 not so good. Hope this helps
