  • Global started up in Nov of 2001. They naver did a lot of business in the actuall grading of coins and airly quickly moved into the niche market of slabbing marketable historical widgits. Their photoslab with the space on the back where they could tell the story of the coin just seemed a natural. Since then the two founders, Jeff Garrett and Tom Mulvaney, have both left the firm. The new owners have started to slowly step back into the actual grading of coins. Still and actual graded coin in a Global slab is a fairly scarce item. As of yet I do not know of any differences between the slabs of he first and second owners.

I always liked that style of slab with the info on the back. Pretty neat.

Great for single-coin displays, but not terribly convenient if you're collecting a date set or something, though.

The coins I've seen in Global holders a few years ago were acurately graded. I haven't seen any in a long time though.

Is this company still in business?

  • Obviously the website has not been updated in some time. As I said earlier Jeff Garrett and Tom Mulvaney have both left the company. In fact they have been gone for over a year but they are still listed on the website as President and Vice President.

The company is still in business but they rarely actually produce a graded coin. Their major output now seems to be waffled coins. I think NGC has stopped slabbing the waffled coins and Global has taken up the slack. I know I have seen advertisements for Globals with waffled coins. I think they were in Coin World. Here is an ebay auction of one. http://cgi.ebay.com/25c-Missouri-Waffle-Coin-Cancelled-Coin-Info-on-slab_W0QQitemZ8370223608QQcategoryZ524QQcmdZViewItem

Doesn't matter. In my opinion, there are only four certification services. Everything else is de facto raw.
