Any hints , tips on scanning cards to list?

I am about to list some cards on ebay & my first scan was disappointing ! It was a Topps Record Breaker and the white border did not show well. There are little dark lines around the perimeter from the shadows of the edge !! I do not want anyone to think that the edges are damaged when they are not !! How does everyone here get a good scan with a white border? Do you cover the top of the scanner with something dark???? Or is there a trick I do not know about ???

Try scanning the card with the lid open as long as direct sunlight is not hitting the scanner bed. I find it even better than using a black background.

What Zodiac said. Turn the lights off in the room and close the shades too.
