Have you noticed sellers no longer say " back in 89 this coin would have sold for xxxx"

Seems like just yesterday when every coin description would have a reference to the boom of the late 80's, but I have not seen it at all lately. Do you suppose it's because prices are nearly as high again?

I still see such references on occasion, usually when the seller wants too much $ for his coins : ).

Even in this market, there are many coins which are selling, literally at fractions of their 1989-1990 highs. Among them are a number of MS and PR type coins, common date MS Walkers and Morgan Dollars and silver commemoratives.

Any low end coins for the grade will continue to sell for a fraction
(1/2 to 1/3) because they are in fact a grade lower than 1989 quality.

    When today's MS65 Barber quarter (now $1000) is selling for the same price as a 1989 MS65 ($3400), you'll know nirvanha has been reached....esp since today's MS65 was a $1000 MS64 back in '89.
