VAM Questions about two 1884-O O/O Morgans
The first 1884-O O/O has a doubled 1 like the VAM 3. The picture matches obverse image in the VAM book. The reverse is different. Doesn't match the description or image. Also checked the photo on the ashmore site. Any ideas?
Second 1884-O O/O matches the mint mark for a VAM 7. The reverse has scattered dots in the fields from a pitted die (inside D of DOLLAR, around D in UNITED, and elsewhere). The VAM 7 doesn't have a pitted die. The only 1884-O with a pitted die that I can find is the VAM 21A. The 21A is a later die state of the VAM 21 (with no pitted die). Should there be a VAM 7A?
