Disturbing thought

CladiatorCladiator Posts: 18,353 ✭✭✭✭✭
I just realized that my entire collection amounts to only $7.42 at face value. Man, what a downer to think of it in those terms. Thousands of dollars I've spent for enough money to get lunch at McDonalds.

Just worked out the precious metal value. At currently prices, my collection is worth just a tad over $50 intrinsicly.

Only $7.42 face value??? Wow, you've got a pretty selective collection! Would you be willing to give us the details on what's in the collection? image

I think I'm going to add up mine and see. It might take me awhile, not because I have a big collection (I dont) but because I'm lazyimage

I guess I'd better start collecting something other than cents.

$8.05, and a few marks and pounds, and 2 shillings Australian.

That is depressing, isn't it? image

$86.60, and that's all in half dimes, at 5 cents each. Kind of depressing after 25 years of collecting. I'd better make a note to my heirs - do not sell at face value.

My mess is worth a few thousand because I've got a bad habit of collecting rolls of uncirc coins, proof sets, uncirc sets, jars of useless stuff, rolls of useless stuff, very heavy box of foreign stuff that I don't even know what country most are from, duplicate sets of just about everything. What really worries me is the amount of times I hear of an estate sale where someone sells the whole mess for face value or the family that inherits such a pile of stuff and takes it to a bank where it goes through a coin counter.

Mine would probably come in around $80 face, but a big chunk is 2 double eagle, 2 eagles, 2 quarter eagles. my core collection of cents is less than $1.
