I don't see any reference to 8 over 8 varieties on the Colin Cooke website, thought there was a 7 over 7 recently sold.
Given that it is one of the most common issues of the Victorian era, it is bound to have a multitude of varieties. The only person to ask about this in my opinion is Neil Paisley, who now runs the Colin Cooke dealership. You might register and try the Colin Cooke website forum.
<< <i>Amazing how a "very rare" can go for 22 GBP (sorry no pound sign on this American keyboard)

No £ sign? Press down your alt key and hold it down. Then type in 0163 on the numeric keypad on the right of your keyboard. Then let up the alt key. Seems you don't know about your character map.

A doubled 8 is known.
Colin's list no 36 -
item 643
1875H (REG) 8 over 8 in date. Underlying 8
is displaced some 20% to the right. Must be
"Very rare" at least. Unc good lustre £22.00.
In the same list he has normal type same grade
at £16.00.
The latest list (54) arrived yesterday (and has
already cost me plenty of money!) it has -
normal Unc lustre at £22.00.
So rare, collectible - but not worth much of a
premium - at this time.
