My first world coin ... **Grade Revealed**

I really like the history behind the 8 reale. Bought this from a forum member and love it.

As long as I'm on a first, guess the grade.

ANACS AU50. Sorry but the scans didn't do it justice. Thanks everyone.

Hi Opus!! Welcome to the Darkside!! Nice first choice in a coin, too.

My guess is XF40 or XF45 depending on the TPG.

Opus, welcome to the Darkside! A Mexico City Mint Eight Real is a good way to start! I'd guess that ANACS graded that coin EF-40.

Looks like a nice first step into the darkside! My first guess is ANACS AU-55, but I suspect it might be net graded due to cleaning?

I'm definitely not up on grading, but can a coin be EF or better with the wear on that one portion of both sides? Do they look at the general condition of the coin overall, or does such wear really bring down the overall grade? Just curious.image

DBST, I think the spots on both sides of the coin that appear to be wear are in fact a weakly struck planchet.

That coin has a lordmarcovan pedigree most recently, and before that, an ajaan pedigree. image

It does has some areas of weak strike but has impressive luster not seen in those pictures. It looked better to my eyes than the grade ANACS gave it.

PS- his pics are better than I could do at the moment, but that coin looks WAY better in hand.

... and it look most awesome in MY hand!!! True, the pics do not show the detail or luster.

I just sold that other one I had (the 1796).

Brought it to work, just to show off to one of the managers here who is a collector, and he pounced on it. I wasn't even really trying to sell it to him- just a little show-and-tell. It had a terrific look for a circulated piece.
