Delays in entering Orders

ManorcourtmanManorcourtman Posts: 8,490 ✭✭✭✭✭
I know this has been a hot issue in the past but it is very frustrating!! I sent an order overnight last Wednesday and it still hasn't been picked up/ signed for yet by PCGS. Is the order receiving dept. on vacation or what? I can understand delays in entering them but this is crazy. My coins are sitting at the P.O. just waiting for trouble to happenimage

I sent in an order a few weeks ago overnight on a Thursday. It was picked up on Monday by PCGS and was in the system the next day. The post office tracking number is still showing the same display that you are seeing (tried to deliver at such and such time, will try again then hold for 5 days). PCGS had a blackout period from Wed-Fri last week, so my money would be that they are at PCGS, not the Post Office, and just got delayed being entered into the system. The USPS tracking numbers have been, in my experience, worthless.

I send from NH -- 2 day priority insured. It usually takes 2 business days (3 every once in a while) to get there. Then, it typically takes another 3-5 business days to get in to the system.

So an order that is sent on 9/27 is logged in on 10/10

The USPS doesn't always accurately or promptly update their info. The last registered package that I got from PCGS still showed as received at Newport Beach on the day I picked it up which was 8 days after it was sent.

I dropped off an Express ($50 each) order in person at PCGS on 10/18. It was finally entered into the system on 10/24... after I contacted PCGS Customer Service to inquire about the delay. image
    When in doubt, don't.

Most collectors either can't read or think that rules and instructions don't apply to them. They are also always in too big a hurry to have to wait, so they trade off security for speed of delivery. I sometimes wonder what would happen if PCGS started rejecting packages that weren't sent registered insured like they were supposed to be. They won't do that because they want the money from all the submissions, but I could see them implimenting a policy of entering the properly shipped submissions first and delaying the "get it there faster" shipments by several days before they are entered.

    They've never enforced that.

I always send my submissions registered. In fact, I always send anything with an insured value over $300 registered. In my mind, an insured first-class package with $7 or $8 of postage on the outside is a screaming beacon for possible theft or tampering.

My last round of submissions were sent from the east coast on 10/13, the Post Office website showed them signed for on the 20th. Two were logged into the PCGS system on the 21st, the third on the 24th. Since the 21st was a black-out show grading day anyway, the delay on the last package won't make any difference in when it is due.

    Conder,

I talked to PCGS customer service on this last year when I sent in my only submission. Even though the form states Registered, they told me it was NOT required.
They actually walked me through the process and registered was not part of it.

So, it is there for security's sake, but just because it says so on the form doesn't mean they require it.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

The downloadable form has changed since my last download as it does state as you state above. So I guess thats what happened to "registered and insured!" image

My apologies if I ruffled any feathers!

I sent a coin to PCGS using USPS Express/Insured for one coin for Express/TruView Grading on 10/17 from Virginia Beach, VA at 12:10 PM. Arrived Santa Anna, CA at 6:54 AM on 10/18. Arrival at Newport Beach, CA at 8:14 AM, notice left at 8:23 AM, delivered on 10/18 at 6:05 PM. Did not hear anything from PCGS so on 10/20 sent Customer Service an eMail whining about this. Got a reply later the same day that the coin had been entered in the system. Verified this to be correct. Got an email today from "Darkhorse" with my picture attached, 1832 Bust Half (cracked out of an ANACS AU58 Holder)image "Awesome" pic Darkhorseimage Checked the number on the pic in PCGS Cert Lookup, didn't recognize the number, damn.image Maybe grade email tommorrow.

Regarding shipping registered/insured vrs priority/insured I use the following guideline: Are the coins I'm shipping replaceable? If the coins can be gotten easily with the insurance proceeds, I will send priority insured for faster turnaround. If the coins are scare, rare or just hard to find or replace, or expensive, then sending registered insured makes sense even if it takes longer. JMHO. Steve
