New 5c error- Guess the date!!!

eyoung429

Here is another beautiful error coin that I received from Carl W.

Craton

Probably a 2000. Saw lots of O/C jeffersons that year.

That's kinda the same thought that I had. Does PCGS grade by the struck portion of the planchet or the overall "coin" as a whole? This has a very clean strike on the rev whereas the obv doesn't seem fully struck as the hair does not seem to be defined as much.

CarlWohlforth

It has a great strike on both sides. I forgot to charge you the Full Step premium!

I think they reduced detail in the hair in the 90s to make the coins easier to strike up...

LALASD4

It looks like a 1999-D.

eyoung429

Ahhh. maybe so Carl but do they count the only stairs that are there or from a set point to another? If it is the existing steps......It is a full step count....but nobody has answered, Does PCGS grade the planchet or the stamped portion of the coin only?????

CoinOnTheCob

I like those off center errors. But, I think I’m going to stop picking them up if they don’t include the date.

OBERSE

REVERSE

XXX

98-D................I'm sure of that. Correct?

eyoung429

I can never get enough of them!!!!!!

zkcoins

Not sure what year, but one heck of a strike.
