Geez, I can't even remember the last time when BOTH programs were good and played each other. Must have been back in the 80's with Osborne & Switzer coaching. 90's OU was down. Since then NU has been down. Now both are down. PLUs not playing each other each year has taken the luster off of this grand tradition.
BTW, How could the 1971 #1NU vs. #2OU "Game of the Century" come in 3rd behind the recent USC/ND game as all time great games?

That is utter horsecrap. ND was #9 and had one loss for god's sake!! Whoever says such things needs to seriously bone up on their sports history.
Man, those were the Big 8 glory days!! Colorado was #3 that year as well.

It was an online ESPN poll the day after the USC/ND game. That '71 Husker team may have been the best of all time. If I'm not mistaken they played the #2, #3 & #4 rated teams that year on the road and won. That is an awesome accomplishment no matter what era it was from. But those snotty west/east coasters look for any reason to vote for USC or ND. This recent game was only an excuse to do so. Plus most of the online voters probably weren't born when the "Game of the Century" was played.
"Man, woman and child...did he put in the aisles. Johnny the Jet Rogers, just tore them lose from their shoes." Classic Lyle Bremser call of the rogers punt return. Awesome.

Well, by design those online polls will be biased toward what happened yesterday. Like you said, most of the repsondents were likely not born in 1971. That being said, I was only 7 in 1971, and certainly was not born during the Bud Wilkinson or Knute Rockne era. So the '71 Huskers being best all time is certainly up for debate and has been debated. Heck, if you remember, the '83 Huskers were going to be the greatest of all time until they played on the green painted mud in Miami.
However, regarding the best GAME of all time, the '71 OU-NU game has been widely acknowledged by those knowledgable of all eras of college football as the greatest of all time. #1 vs #2, AND both teams finished #1 and #2 after the bowls. No other game is as widely accepted as the greatest of all time.
