Wahoo coin show report

I have to get ready for school but wanted to say how the show in Wahoo went yesterday. Wahoo is about 40 minutes from Omaha. Driving there with my Dad some of the corn fields were harvested and some weren't. The one's still up were really, really cool looking. All dry, and brown and the sky was cloudy so it looked really cool together. Wahoo is a small town. Lots of big old houses with big old trees. All the trees were changing color and leaves were every where. It looked like so much fun to make a big pile and run and jump in them. My Dad said it looked like something Norm Rockwell would paint. I don't know who he is.

The coin show was at the fair grounds in the 4-H building. When we got there there were about the same people who set up tables at the monthly show in Omaha. I was kind of disappointed. Maybe one or two different people. I was hoping to see some different stuff. I saw bunch of people from the Omaha coin club and said Hi. I didn't find anything to buy though. I saw a really nice 3 cent silver piece that I wanted to buy. I don't remember the date. image It didn't have a lot of wear and was dark but the design was easy to see. The guy had a BIG $15 on the 2X2. I asked to look at it and when he took it out he said, "That's not the price. That's what I paid for it. I haven't had time to change the price yet. It will cost you $29." I gave it back becasue I didn't think he should have done that. imageimage

I won a door prize though. A swiss army knife with scissors, file, knife and red pointer light. That was cool. So I was happy about that. Even though I didn't get a new coin I had a lot of fun looking at coins and talking to people and spending time with my Dad. He didn't find anyting either.image

Well, I better go get ready for school.

Nice report Samuel, and I am not surprised that you had the good sense to refrain from lecturing the dealer who quoted $29 on the 3CS.image

Nice report! The corn fields at the farm next to my house have been harvested too. The farmer down the street makes a maze out of his field (a maize maze), and he makes a bit of money off of that too.

Samuel: Nice report and continue to enjoy spending time with your dad because you never know when things will change. I live in California and my son and his family moved to La Vista, Nebraska about six years ago. Although we talk on the phone every day I miss him like crazy. A one week visit every year or two just doesn't cut it...

Samuel: Thanks for sharing your excellent Wahoo!, Nebraska coin show report with the rest of us. It sounds like you and your dada picked a good day for a father & son drive.

I hope that you have better luck at your next coin show. Sometimes drawing a blank at one show makes you more appreciative of when you make a few purchases at the next show.

Good report although you didn't find anything to buy you at least had to chance to check out what you may want in the future. Keep on talking to people because you never know when they'll have something you want and because they know you, they may give you a better break on the price. It's the same around here with basically the same dealers at all the shows with basically the same merchandise.
You said Wahoo is 40 minutes from Omaha. I'd have to look at maps just to find Nebraska. Your lucky if you can see farms, corn fields or whatever they grow on out there and big old houses. Around here we see concrete, asfalt and bricks. If you can take pictures of all that stuff just in case some day it becomes like the Chicago area.

I guess $29 wouldn't have been that bad to pay but when he had a big $15 written on the 2X2 and then says that isn't the price it kind of made me feel funny about buying it. image

I thought for a second this was a new inventory report from Gail at JJ Teaparty. image

Nice report. Sorry to hear you didn't pick anything up, however I am glad to hear you had the sense not to buy something unless it was priced right and what you wanted. We all can learn from that.

    Take care...Mike

Nice report Samuel..........cherish the time that you spend with your Dad. Although my Dad didn't collect coins, we spent plenty of great times together doing outdoor activities like fishing, and camping. My own son is more into sports collectibles, than he is with coins, but that's ok. We enjoy the time together, hunting down baseball collectables, and attending baseball card shows.

That sounds like the Nebraska I remember. I grew up in Fremont, a stone's throw north of Wahoo. We had a great American Legion baseball rivalry with Wahoo and one of my favorite memories is getting the game winning hit in the last of the 7th. The other games I've forgotten.

    Good report.

Michael: What does being "fat" have to do with anything? I'm a BIG boy and I'm sure there are others on this message board who are too so you might want to keep that in mind before you make those sort of remarks -- just a thought.

While it may not seem much of a show to some, I think Samuel made the most of it and I for one am glad he went and reported. I use to go to small shows like this in Mississippi, and then come out complaining because it was always the same folks selling the same stuff they had at the last show. But once you have NO access to ANY shows, I have had to learn the hard way to appreciate what I once had. Samuel, I am envious!
