tell me about losing a coin

so I don't feel like the only idiot.

I am a flight nurse. So last night I transported a patient to the ER. My room-mate works at the hospital to. When he saw me he told me to wait as I had some mail that he picked up. Yes some coins had arrived, and no I could not wait to see them Nothing out of the world but nice 1939 Jeff D and S that I needed for the album. I ripped the package open in a gentle manner of course. Yep just want I want nice details and would look good in the album. Slide the coin slip into the pocket and off we go to restock and finish the paper work. Back to the room to grab some sleep. Wait lets look at the coins again as now I have my loupe in the room. Check the first pocket, what no coin. Check the other pocket, still no coin oh sh**. Six pockets later and no nickles. I hope some kid fines them and either starts collecting or get a nice gum ball and enjoys them. Next time leave the package sealed until I get home.

I've misplaced two $2.5 gold Indians and damned if I can find them anywhere. They are on either side of a mylar flip. It's driving me crazy, I don't know if they'll turn up somewhere around the house or if they are truly lost. One is high AU, the other is low-MS. I'm feeling foolish and frustrated.

thought i had found a worn 92 o barber half while searching through the clutter,
went to dinner, came back and couldn't find it. Stayed up til 2 looking, finally found it.
eyes were shot, got the magnifyer out. the alleged "o" was
    a gouge.
then about a year ago i had a two headed nickel. i know there were a lot of
these things faked, but i believed this one to be legit. I've already torn the place
apart for that one. it's gone. probably got spent

About 5 years ago I was looking through about 3000 wheats for a friend. About 3 am I found a worn 1922-P and tossed it into the large junk wheat pile. About 3:20am it hit me that there were no P mints made and I just tossed a no D into the pile. I found it about 45 minutes later only to discover it was a weak D. Granted it was lost for only 45 minutes, but at that hour it was like an enternity.

This is actually a non lost coin story.

When my father passed away in 1995 he left to me a pretty cool collection of classic commems, mostly PCGS, some raw and one or two in NGC.

I went through his documentation and much to my suprise, he had at least one example of every classic (including gold with the exception of the two big 50s).

So as time went on, I got more and more into getting things organized and I found that I could no longer locate the Connecticut commem.

Wracking my brain because I know it was there at one time, I must have turned the house inside out.
For months all I could do was feel rotten that I had lost one of his coins.

Then one day I was looking at the commems and I noticed that there was a Bridgeport both in a PCGS slab and a raw one. Somehow, the raw one had been marked connecticut. Mystery solved. But now I needed to go out and buy a Connecticut.

I lost a counterfeit 1914-d Lincoln. I was taking photos of it and placed it in my pocket when I was done. Later that night when I emptied my pockets it was gone.

I've never lost one, but had a close call. One fell out of my car as I was getting in. The coin was raw in a small paper bag. I drove off and realized the coin was not with me. It was a good thing I noticed right away. There was the coin in the bag in the parking lot!

There are two coins that I know I've lost - an 1864 Two-cent piece with a very rare repunched date, and a proof 1938 Jefferson Nickel. It's been at least five years, maybe longer, since I've seen either of them.

I carry a wooden nickel pocket piece from our local coin club. It has a red ink screen printed Buffalo nickel style indian on one side and a palmeto tree ala Columbia commemrative on the other side. Any how, two weeks back at Boy Scout camp where I was the session chair for a father-son overnighter, I was unaware that I had lost the "coin" until Sunday morning in the wee hours as I was securing the camp for the evening and walking down the entrance roam when my flashlight shined upon a perfectly circular "rock". It was my pocket piece! I had no idea it was missing. Now what are the chances I would find it without activly looking for it. It must be the "piece" for me!

I lost a mexican onza back in 1992 or so in an envelope. I found it about 10 years later in between things in a box. It was magnificently toned and I sold it for $200+. image If only it could happen more often. LOL

In 2001 I went on vacation with the family and instead of putting some proof sets in the bank, I stuck them here and there thinking they would be difficult for a burglar to find but not hard for me to find. DUH! Memory is the first thing to go and I forgot the first one!

About a year later I came across my hidden proof sets and kept finding them for about a month after that!

    Never again!

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Not exactly lost coins, but close.

I had a bunch of coins in a small safe. Proof sets and some assorted type coins. I lost the key to the safe many years ago. I always figured it would turn up, but it never did, so the coins didn't see the light of days for maybe 7 or 8 years. The coins were only a few inches from my desk but they may as well have been miles away. Finally I decided to write away to the safe manufacturer, who was fortunately still in business, and got a replacement key, and the "lost coins" were once again found.

I thought I lost a Gold Eagle one time becaue it just wasn't anywhere. One day when I went to my bank and the safe deposit box I thought I'd do a little inventory of what's in it. At the bottom was a small envelope that I just didn't remember being there. Opened it and there was the Eagle. Wonder who put it there. Old age is really setting in.
