Thanks, Gene. My previous sigline coin (DP#2 in 64RB) was too big according to Carol's published criteria, so I decided to change it to the "key" piece in my collection.

BTW, in case there was any doubt as to the rarity and demand for the 1859 brass cent, a very large and high quality greyside collection called the Grant collection is currently available through a Canadian dealer. The collection contains a great many bronze and silver Canadian rarities. I inquired with the dealer about the VF-20 brass cent available with this collection and was told it was the first coin to sell. image

Bosox, can you give me some more info about the Grant collection? Is there a link to the collection, and is the collection selling as a whole collection or sell by individually?

I like your 1859 brass too as well as other red Vickies.

It is being sold by the piece by Lighthouse Numismatics of Halifax. I'm told that they had an ad in the latest edition of Canadian Coin News, but my copy has not arrived by snail mail to the US yet. I inquired of LH after hearing of the ad from other collectors.

Gene - I did not buy the Grant brass. I did purchase one coin from the ad. I'll post it when it arrives. - Rob

  • its a bit annoying that the Grant Collection was sold this way. Originally they stated that they wouldn't break up the set. If I had known in advance that they had changed their mind, I would have been interested in buying quite a few coins, possibly even an entire date run. Instead, they let the people who get the CCN first cherry pick the collection. I'm distant, so I haven't even received the CCN yet, but did manage to buy one of the left over coins. image

I agree with you Doc. I would have likely bought most, if not all, of the Vicky cents. I ended up buying one, which was on hold to somebody else, but the sale fell through and I bought it.

  • Very pretty '59 brass, Bosox! I also love your other red Vickies. I wish our business were doing better so I could have gotten in on the Grant collection sale.

Susan - Life goes in cycles. At times I have collected high end coins. At times I have collected circulated coins. At times I have collected no coins. Patience and good luck in your future collecting. - Rob
