Idgit of the Week Award

I am really getting into these coins. I have learned a bunch of stuff and have lots more to learn. I find that I am really enjoying the time I am spending on them. I no longer see them as money, but can see the beauty in some of them. I bought a camera and learned how to use it. Have an appointment this week to learn about hosting and posting pics. I have worked very diligently this past week (4 days & nights) listing all my coins in a spreadsheet. Wanted to be ready when I received my red book to go in and grade the coins and list the book value. Worked on the Dollars, had them listed, catagorized and did my best at assigning an amateur's grad by comparing the book and other previously graded coins. I saved my spreadsheet many times, however, I did not back up to a disk. AND I KNOW BETTER THAN THAT!!!! You know what's coming, don't you? The last time I tried to save I got a message ......"file name" is not a valid win32 application. I am such an idgit!!!!! Now I not only have to fix my computer, I have to do all that work over again.

    Relax, Linda.
This is a hobby. Enjoy it; don't make it into work.

God held a contest between Jesus and Satan to see who could type in the Bible fastest into MS-Word.

Just as they almost finished, God rebooted their computers.

Satan was cursing and Jesus pressed the last period key to finish.

I had a sneaking suspicion that you'd get hooked!

One time I was drafting an agreement and got down to the signature lines - THE SIGNATURE LINES - and the power went off. Of course I hadn't saved the document. I cussed out the computer kicked over my chair, called the electric company and gave them a piece of my mind, and got in my car and went to a big city 50 miles away and bought a UPS. I cussed all the way up the highway. By the time I got back home, I calmed down and reconstructed the document from memory - but it was a bad day.

Days like that is why it's fun to look at old coins and read some of the cat fights on the message board.
    How 'bout them DAWGs!

Sorry to here that, I often just print it instead of backing it up.

The one thing I know about computers is that the info is probably still there you can't really lose it, but I'm not that tech-minded to show you how to recover it.

There is a program called excelfix that will fix the damaged file. Go into google and type in excelfix and follow the directions.

Usually MS-wod and excel have a function called autosave which is usually on by default. Even if you haven't been saving your document all along it has been. When I get a computer crash or a lockup like that I reset the computer (use reset button or on newer computers press and hold the on switch until the computer shuts down.) WITHOUT exiting the program. Then after I restart the computer and restart the program it will tell you that you have an unsaved document and ask if you want to reopen it. Answer yes and you have most of your document back. Everything except what you put in in the last 5 to 10 minutes.

Or if you haven't been saving the file while you have been working on it the las saved version of the file is probably still there and all you have lost is the last sessions work.
