Opinions please

I acquired this postcard earlier this year and after much research, believe that the player standing on the far right is Bill Terry, who would have been 15 or 16 years old in the picture, which dates to either 1913 or 1914.

What can I do with this piece to have it basically authenticated as being an early photo of Bill Terry?

    A little research:

Velox paper, was invented by Leo Baekeland, a Belgian-born American chemist in 1893. Velox was the first photographic paper that could be printed in artificial light (previous ones had to be printed in sunlight). That year Baekeland founded the Nepera Chemical Company in Yonkers, New York, to manufacture this type of paper. In 1899 Baekeland sold his company and rights to Velox to the U.S. inventor George Eastman. Velox was introduced by Kodak as the “first of the true gaslight papers”. It was a silver chloride contact print paper, which compared to bromide paper was very slow developing and therefore did not require a dark room. For this reason, Velox was promoted for use by amateur photographers. The Eastman Kodak Company first listed a Velox photographic postcard stock in its 1902 catalogue. The postcard stock was discontinued in the late 1940's but the paper is still being manufactured.

And then a little more on the Velox Postcard and how to ID the year.

If you look at where you "place the stamp" - it has diamonds on the corner - that places the card in the 1907 to 1914 range.

    That's all I got

Interesting information Mike - I worked in a camera shop for four years and own some cameras from that period.

As far as the positive ID. That's gonna be hard of course. As you probably know even with very famous people, possible pictures of them at young ages can sometimes be disputed. Perhaps contacting somebody from the Terry family? - might be tough to contact someone like this I realize...and even if you do they still might not be 100% sure if it's him. Good luck.

Well, Bill Terry was born in Atlanta and that looks like Atlanta High School - I'm willing to bet ya you could contact the school, if it still exists and get them to varify the pic with a yearbook.

    Just a thought
I think the postcard is very cool.
