The WS and Take Me Out to the Ball Game Music - "6666"

I thought with the WS here, this would be a fun thing to talk about - I have picked up two of the 11 different versions of the original sheet music.

The pics on the front are people 'noted' at the time for singing the song made immortal by the later Harry of Cubbies fame.

If you can find an edition with Sadie Jansell - that would be a prize - it's considered the first edition from 1908. Of the total of 11 different versions, 6 contain pics of people who were noted for singing the song. Others besides the two I have and the Jansell - Henry Fink, Susie Fisher, Ida Burn Laurence and the actual song writer Jack Norworth. (and BTW, since I couldn't find a reference to Wheeler Earl - see photo - I'm wondering if there isn't 7 copies with pics if in fact there is one of the writer?)

And last but not least - and for some this is more than you ever wanted to know about this song - (this is for Mark) - many people are not aware that there are actual lyrics/melody to the song and that what is popularized is actually the "Chorus" to the song.

Opening lyrics: "Katie Casey was base ball mad, had the fever and had it bad...."

Now, everyone - "all together...and a one, and a two...Take me out to the ball game..."

Tonite's a great nite for baseball fans like myself - a team who hasn't been there since 1959 and another that has never...

It just doesn't get any better than this!

Katie Casey was base ball mad.
    Had the fever and had it bad;
Just to root for the home town crew,
    Ev'ry sou Katie blew.
On a Saturday, he young beau
Called to see if she'd like to go,
To see a show but Miss Kate said,
"No, I'll tell you what you can do."

"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
    If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
    At the old ball game."

Katie Casey saw all the games,
    Knew the players by their first names;
Told the umpire he was wrong,
    All along good and strong.
When the score was just two to two,
Katie Casey knew what to do,
Just to cheer up the boys she knew,
She made the gang sing this song:

"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
    If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, your out,
    At the old ball game."
    Good for you.
