A comparison between two Oregons appreciated

I'd appreciate a comparison and comments between these two 1926-S Oregons.

    both are very nice.

it seems the second one has more rim nicks?

very similiar toning, but not the same coin after looking closely.

can one buy coins like this by the bag or what?

^^^^(not meant as a put down. what is the mintage of the coin above?)

<can one buy coins like this by the bag or what? >

Actually quite the contrary. One can find an Oregon of any date with some sort of toning on it with out breaking the bank, but to find one with very pretty coloring patterns and relatively uniform toning in MS66 and above can be quite difficult, and expensive. The only examples that one can buy "buy the bag" realistically are the dipped out and plain white examples.

Not taken as such.image The mintage is one of the higher of all the Oregons but its' percentage of mintage to high grade mint state surviving examples is among the lowest of all the Oregons. This is primarily due to the examples issued prior to 1929 were highly likely to be used in circulation and therefore greatly reducing the number of survivors in true MS Gem condition.

tand remembere this is my opinion based on the scans of the coins which are crappy and somewaht dark esxpecially so the second coin

i wouild need to see both in person sight seen to be sure

but the heritage coin looks to be from the scans minmd you a 66+ with great even amazing coloration both sides and also more vibrant and not drak color thsat goes completely aorund both sides i love it

the second coin is a little hard to tell but it looks like a could be as ms 65 or 66 coin and the color looks a little dark aounrd the edges and also the color is slightly better on the obverse of this coin than the first one but the reverse i do notlike at all

so it is hard to judge from scans but if it was me i8 like most definately the first coin as it looks to be 66+ in the scan and also way above average color around the rims BOTH SIDES

IF THE SECOND COIN is not dark color wise in the scan then it is better obverse color till you turn it around and it leaves me cold and this kills the coin for me even if the obverse is monster which i think it is not possibly the first coin heritage is technicazlly better with more vibrant lustre and toning and also killer on both sides of the coin and possibly 66+ and remember this is just from the pi$$ scans of both coins the second setof scans of the coin are terrible

but either way it is almost a no brainer for me that the firsat coin is better on most all if not all points but it is like asking me to tell you if a bill is conuterfiet i tell you hold it closer to the puter so i can sees its

but just from the scans and my intuition i think the first coin hertaige is better grade wise eye appeal wise killer both saides and this is importaNT REALLY VIBRANCE COIN AND VIBRANT TONING AND MOREE BVLUE COLORATION THEN YOU USUALLY SEE ON OREGONTRIALS AS MOSTLY THE SECOND COIN IS THYAT DEEP BROWNISH GOLD RUSSET RED TONING THAT IS MUCH MORE COMMOPN COLORATION FOR OREGON TRAILS THEN THE WILD RAINBOW AND VBLUE COLORS ON THE FIRST ONE

SO THE HERITAGE COIN IS THE ONE FOR MEE OVERall

Another example of the diversity and differences of opinions within this hobby. I will hopefully soon be owning both of these 1926-S Oregons and in my opinion, the #2 example blows away the #1 example bar none in terms of color, over-all toning, and eye-appeal. They are both PCGS MS66 and they do compliment each other nicely.

I don't even like the Heritage coin #1, too many toning blobs out of place, too many marks in the wrong places, AND the luster sure is not obvious.

From the pictures of #2 the coin looks to have some real luster and the marks do not show on the picture, only the plastic scratches show up plainly.

I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
