I thought the same thing. The speed at which all of the Armour coin lots got over $1,000 was incredible. I picked up a beautiful set of 1959 coins (common colors) on eBay for $150 just a day or two before the Mastro auction ended. Coins were perfect. Seller was a non-card guy that labeled them as '58s in very good condition. When non-card people use the term very good, it often turns out to be near mint or better.

Luckily I don't need the difficult colors....
  • Bob-

good to hear that a fellow psa board member won that "1958" armour coin auction! I set a snipe for 150 i think but it never executed. Yeh I agree you can get some good quality ungraded coins on ebay if you get lucky. I bought a lot of 59s(i think 20 coins in all) for around 60 dollars. It didn't have the whole set but it included 4 aarons and 4 frank robinsons. I ended up with 2 aaron PSA 9s and 2 Robinson PSA 10s...all the commons that I had graded came back either 9s or 10s.

Thanks for the info on the mastro auction sflayank. Didn't know non-graded specimens were obtaining such high prices!

  • hi
I added up those mastro lots and figuring ridiculous prices for the rare colors i figured i could pay close to $5000 including the buyers premium
    they went for about $7500
buy on ebay and sell in mastro
  • I was the very happy consignor on three of the four Armour coins lots in the MastroNet auction. I picked up these coins at a garage sale two blocks from our house last May for just $15 total. Yes, I'm a happy camper.

  • wow thats some rate of return on your investment! Did you sell all of your coins or keep some? I'm still looking for my 1960 Daley to complete my collection.

That's a great story...nice to see those things still happen occasionally. My '70 K football and '72 K baseball sets (PSA 9) went for $693 each. Pretty pleased with the '72 but a bit disappointed on the '70 fb.
  • Larry or Colelctor Chris,

do either of you recall what the rare colors were that were being auctioned ??

  • Bob,

thanks, found it. Prices were even more amazing considering the coins were > 50% < nm shape .
  • Another completre ungraded 59 set just hit EBay. Problem, as usual, is to tell condition of these coins. Of all the years 59 is probably the safest in terms of likely condition, but looking at a pic with 20 coins in cardboard/cellophane holders is absolutely useless, except to determine the colors. ...ArmourPhil
