Shipping question for residents of Europe

I won a couple Ebay auctions from a seller in Germany. Paid for them via Paypal with insurance included.

I got an email from the seller and the German translation didnt come over well but the seller is saying "Unfortunately one said to me, which for the moment (by the Hurricans in the USA) no letters are insured into the USA."

And he refunded the money I paid for insurance.

So my questions are:

Does the Post Office refuse insurance when hurricanes are around? And should I be worried?

thanks in advance

That's a new one on me. Perhaps Udo will know.

I got the same message and thought he has some kind of private insurance. I'm not too concerned since the material is still coming registered (and he did refund the difference).

  • My Post Office ( Isle of Man Postal Authority ) is happily taking the money for the Insurance!! It just seems to be taking a few days longer than earlier in the year.

This guy must have a kind of private insurance. Maybe tradesmen have such kind of insurance opportunity.
Ordinary people like me are forced to use the Deutsche Post and the only way to insure shipping of coins is DHL Postpaket or DHL Express.
Both services are very expensive, about 27 Euro.
For all other services, for example "registered" coins cannot be insured.

Thank God all what I've sent to the USA arrived till present.

Oh, and Deutsche Post will ship, regardless if there are ten hurricanes. Maybe it'll take longer, but they ship and they insure if you pay for it.

Udo is correct...unfortunately, I just paid 26 Euro for a German auction house to send me a 20 gram medal and I'm not happy about it. If it were a spendy medal it wouldn't matter but it wasn't....image
