On a side note, I don't think the Astros will be able to recover after that home run, and Brad Lidge's career could go down the toilet if Houston can't win either game and gets knocked out. Depending on how he handled it, I bet he'll be totally shell-shocked if he was called on to pitch in either of these last 2 games.
Lidge will be fine. All of the games best relievers have blown a big save at one time or another. You cant say Dennis Eckersley without Kirk Gibson.......

Just thought I'd do a little digging and find this short thread from the 2005 NLCS...
My comments were pretty close at the time - he didn't have to pitch again in the NLCS and the Houston did manage to win, but sure enough, he took 2 of the losses in the WS.
I find it incredible that one pitch changed the entire career for what used to be an excellent pitcher.
He lost his closer job, although that was long over-due as he had already blown plenty of games last season...
Now, it looks far worse than just losing the closer job - I'd say within a month, he will be headed to the minors, and if he doesn't get it together quick, he'll be out of baseball by the end of this season. I'd lay even odds on that at this time.

Nah... even bad closers get to stick around for quite a while and are almost always given a chance by some desperate team!

Yeah, but Eck was able to recover from that. Lidge has been on a downward spiral for a long time now.

We used to think he was part of our future. Now we wish he were part of our past.
Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12
