New leader on the Greatest Moments

I wanted to congratulate my friend Steve Eberhardt for obtaining the finest Greatest Moments set for this year of 2005. It has been fun competing with you on this set for the past 11 years. Now I have to bow down to the top dog as his set is extremely highend. Who would have ever thought we could have a set this nice Steve? After holding the title for three years on this set, there is now a new leader.
P.S. Could someone help me with a Pepitone PSA 8?

Congrats!

I saw that when I made my last update he had passed you, and now he's opened up a .02 lead. Both your sets are tremendous. Congratulations.

That .02 is going to be tough to beat as there are very few cards out there in higher grade that can be had.

    Oh well.
    Maybe next year.

  • Did that have anything to do with Colt breaking up his set?

I begged for his Munson, but I think the deal was done.
  • Congrats to Shane for coming up with some last minute upgrades and taking back the lead on this set. Shane and Steve both have incredible sets. But, Shane and Steve - just remember who the first guy was to have a complete registered set with all 7's and 8's with no qualifiers. In fact, I think if I had not sold off my set I would still be the only one with that honor. Nevertheless, I am totally impressed with both of your sets and look forward to watching you both compete for the title in the future. Neither of you can stop until the final goal is reached - a complete graded set in all PSA 8 or better. Hopefully I will still be alive to see that happen - maybe sometime in the next 40 or 50 years. I don't think most collectors really appreciate what a significant challenge this set presents. May the best man win.

So Shane was sandbagging with his congrats while plotting a last minute snipe on the registry?

    Anthony-
I was sandbagging a tad when I wrote this two weeks ago. I knew that Steve had an ace in the hole, the only problem was I had a full house full of aces. I had been planning that he was going to pick up the Bench PSA 9 way in advance of him placing it out on the registry, so I picked up a couple of PSA 8/9's myself to keep up with the Jones'. I did get a tad scared when my GPA was the same as his. My GPA rounded down. Apparently, it was enough to sneak by.
    Colt-
Your set was a nice set as well. Steve has some incredible stars in PSA 9 that really make that set worth some cash.
And finally to my homeboy Murcerfan. Thank you for willingness/kindness on the cards.

Thanks Steve. I will open it up. The additions were Bunning PSA 9 from GR. Colt gave me the Fregosi. And my so called "friend" ha, ha- murcerfan- gave me the Dierker and Killebrew. That was all of the additions. Now for the subtractions- $$$$$$$$.

Dave, you are a true friend. I owe you some large sized beers in Anahiem.

For those of you who have an interest in the 1971 Greatest Moments Set, I've added scans of a couple recent additions to my set. I hope to add scans of all the cards in my set over the next few days.

I couldn't upload a scan containing both Thurman Munson cards I have in my set to the Registry; a PSA-7 and a PSA-8 OC, so I've posted it here.

Take a look and let me know which card you like best and why.

    Thanks,

    Steve

I vote for the bottom one. The centering is a bit worse, but the top ones lower left corner looks dinged, and the bottom edge of that card looks more chipped. Both have that typical tilt and the bottom one is worse, but it looks a lot closer to pack fresh to me.

My vote would be the 8oc. I personally think the 8oc from this set should be equal to the straight 7 from a weighting stand point. I have kept 2 8oc/7's for my set.

    Colt,

Until you pointed it out, I didn't realize yours was the first all PSA 7 or better set listed on the Registry. My belated congratulations on your accomplishment and please know that the cards from your set know residing in mine have gone to a good home.

    Hey Shane!

When are we going to let us see your #1 All-Time Finest Set ?

    Steve,
The set is not #1 anymore it is #2. Congrats on the four new cards. It will be impossible to catch you now. You are the new leader of the pack, again.
