Man oh man. They were one strike away from the World Series! What a crushing blow!!
Reminds me of the 1986 Angel / Red Sox ALCS. Angels up 3/1 and one strike away from winning it and they blew it. Series went back to Boston and the Red Soxs took both games at home, winning the ALCS
And if you remember, what goes around, comes around. The Red Sox was one strike away from winning the Series in '86 before the house came crumbling down. It would be forever known as the "Buckner game" although it really wasn't Bill Buckner's fault for the Sox's dramatic collapse.
It was a hell of a shot, and as an Astro's fan, it was a heartbreaker. Kudos to the Cards for not giving up.
Now, with that said, how in the hell are you (Phil Garner) knowing that Lidge had trouble pitching to the two previous batters, let him pitch to the one man who has been destroying you for the last two years? When you have one out to get to go to the WS, you do not pitch to one of if not the leagues best hitter who was hitting .400 against you in the series. You had a base open and the next guy who is barely hitting .200 on deck.
If any of you were the manager, wouldn't you think walking Pujols is the only option? Gutless or not, it's for the chance to play in the big show.

Man that's tasteless.
To be a cards fan in minute maid would have been ecstasy....40k+ fans screaming thinking that the cardinals' season is over...and then...

Garner..."you think you can get him?"
Lidge..."yeah, I think so!?"
Garner..."ok, then go ahead!?"
Lidge..."OH CHIT!!!"
