I would like to know out of 1964-1967 philadelphia football, which year is the most difficult to assemble in high grade and why. Please share your thoughts.

  • I am no expert by any means but I just sent in a 67 Philly card to SGC for grading and from what I've seen, the 67's have centering issues as well as rough cuts.

Anyone else have experience with this?

either 66 or 67, 67 has the colored borders ,66 has tons of cutting issues.

From the PSA population report :
The number of cards submitted and the percent graded 8 or better :

    1964 Philly - 10197 - 62 %

    1965 Philly - 7693 - 64 %

    1966 Philly - 4686 - 51 %

    1967 Philly - 4678 - 55 %

From this data one can conclude that 1966 is slightly tougher than 1967.
Also, both 1966 and 1967 are way tougher than 1965, and 1964 is the easiest.

My real life experience with these sets is the same.
There are some 1966 and 1967 cards that are just plain impossible to find in high grade.

  • From my experience, 67 is the hardest. There seems to be centering issues and chipping of the yellow borders. be sure though that you can differentiate between chipping and rough cut edges. PSA does not downgrade for rough cuts and you will see many 8's and 9's with this characteristic.

64 is the easiest. 7's are a great value and commons can be had for under $10. Common 8's can go for between $12-$25. 9's can go for $55-$175 depending on population.

Does the green backs of the 1966 Philly a grading issue?
