Piece o' modern crud. Queens anyone?

The local coin shop didn't have anything new (sigh, seems to be more and more the case these days), so I started scrounging through the display cases for stuff I might have overlooked. I came across this piece and was struck by the design, as well as the historical interest. Still in its original packaging too. It's a BIG coin (64.9 grams, .9250 Silver = 1.9314 oz. silver). I especially like the incuse portraits. Since it had been languishing in inventory for a while, we threw out the $45 Krause listing and I was able to pick it up for $3 over melt. W00t!

Queen Anne seems to have fared the worst there, looks nothing like. Victoria looks like the Churchill crown in drag.
<< <i>Queen Victoria would not have approved of that rendition.
Ain't it the truth
But that is a neat piece

Yeah, Victoria has a very Yoda-ish look about her. "Build an empire I will."

Well, $50 Caymenese (Caymenian?) dollars is what, about $1.87?

I had to pay 1.10 US for 1 CAY last time I was there.
and there are companies which accumulate the coins for this reason. There are many
gold coins with face values of 100 or 200 dollars which contain little enough gold to
make these trades profitable. I've long suspected that these coins end up being de-
stroyed by the issuer since the demand is so weak.
Don't it always seem to go...
