The coin has nice Orange toning, and I can't get the contrast to pick up the color...

Well, I'd trade imaging skills for a seat in a jet!!image

What type of light source are you using? One or two lights? Try setting it(them) higher and be sure the 'filament glow' part of the light goes no closer than the PCGS rubber ring.

Try two lights, like Mac says put 'em higher and close together but on opposite sides of the coin. Play with it ... it takes time and practice image

you need to filter the light too...I put one thickness of an old white t-shirt across the light shade and hold it in place with a rubber band...it ain't pretty but it works and you get rid of the hot spot. image

I recommend using this for photographing slabs. It does nothing for reflections off of plastic in the proximity of the coin, but if does eliminate a lot of stray reflections.

Try using a CLEAR bulb 100W and the slant glass method, I think you will find something to like about the results. You don't get the large Glow area of a Coated bulb. I use it in a swing arm lamp, about 21/2-3 feet from the 45 degree glass.

Might also try directing your light off of a White surface onto the coin, to difuse more.

MacCrimmon - DEAL. I'll send you the seat! image

I've been using a single Halogen, and covered the lamp with a thin piece of white shipping foam.

It melted. The shade gets suprisingly Hot, and it took me a while to clean the mess.

I'll try the T-Shirt trick next and will probably buy another Halogen lamp to try the two-lamp side offset trick. Maybe try the angled glass trick again too...

    Probably order a 'LiteDisk' diffuser.

    Thanks for all the advice.
