    Seaby 1146 (?). Annona.

  • Annona could well be i've come across this personification whilst searching, but she didn't look much like the one i had pictured in my Collectors' Coins Roman Silver Coins. But i figured more in depth references would show more design varieties.

    I don't have a Seaby. (Yet).

It is supposed to be Ceres I believe, but the corn ears are terribly rendered.

This type is not recorded for Antoninus Pius in RIC, RSC or Cohen. Interesting purchase. Any chance it's a fourree?

To me it looks like Pax holding an olive branch and resting on a scepter. It would date from AD 152-153. See SR-4095 for a very near match.

My latest Roman coin - Caracalla denarius
    image

    Legend:
    ANTONINVS PIVS AVG
    Laureate and draped bust right
    PONTIF TRP VIII COS II
Salus seated left, feeding serpent coiled around altar

    Roman Imperial Coins RIC 82
    Roman Silver Coins RSC 422

Caracalla, a type of dress cloak, was the nickname for this emperor.
He used the names "Marcus Aurelius Antoninus" and "Antoninus Pius" because the real Antoninus and Aurelius were considered by the Romans to be great emperors.
Caracalla and Geta were the two sons of Emperor Septimius Severus.
Caracalla arranged the murder of his brother, then the execution of thousands.
He was murdered in 117, probably by a bodyguard.
