Could this 71 Munson GAI 7.5 cross to a PSA 8??

I'm dying to find a 71 PSA 8 - could this cross over? I'd be scared to crack it, and worry about trimming, etc - and there may be too many corners with dings to make it an 8....Opinions??

Thanks for the input -

Steve

Right corners [both top and bottom] tell me no.

Plus - from a reasonableness perspective - if the seller thought that this card had a high chance of crossing over to PSA 8 - the seller would recognize that selling it as a GAI 7.5 would be leaving a lot of money on the table. I would view this as an indication that the seller either a) doesn't care and doesn't want to make money or b) has little confidence that this card could be a PSA 8.

My thoughts? Since this seller does also sell cards graded by PSA I doubt it. I am sure that if it had a chance that he would have done so. However anything is possible.

    Good for you.

    Hmmm

Seller has 7,539 cards available graded by PSA but only 230 graded by GAI.

That should tell you that this was a PSA 7 - or that it has no chance of being a PSA 8.

I've dealt with Joe's numerous times, from what he's told me, he doesn't have the stuff graded, he buys it. In fact, he bought a whole stack of PSA/GAI graded stuff from me at the National's this summer. As for cracking and resubmitting, I've gotten no indication on that, so I have no idea. He also has stuff both high end and low end for the grade, which is what leads me to believe he doesn't crack and resubmit. I picked up some nice cards from him at the nationals, and off ebay, and a few are candidates for a crack and resubmit. I've always gotten my stuff very quickly from him and usually packed with newspaper in a 400 ct box. The $5 shipping is my only complaint and he's usually a fair amount over SMR and won't deal much, if at all on the price, he'll just say that he thinks the card is undervalued in SMR. He's certainly allowed to do that, and in some cases he's right.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experiences with them.

I completely agree. If this card could have been in a PSA 8 holder, it already would be.

    Ditto, for sure.
  • Never
  • Is it me or does the case look like it's already been cracked? That 7.5 seems pretty generous considering the light touches on the right corners and ever so slight wear on the bottom and left edges.

The seller is rock solid- if the grade is generous that would be a reflection on the grading company, certainly not on the seller. He's one of the good guys.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • Yes, I know the seller is rock solid. I buy from him, also. I'm just wondering about the cracks on the casing.
