why you don't trust NGC grading

No one can afford to trust NGC grading on UNC bust material. For example, the pop reports show that NGC has graded 2X as many MS65 bust halves than PCGS. Both have graded the same amount of coins. What does that tell you? Tells me that NGC is 2X easier on Busties than PCGS. Hence the prices will vary widely. The situation is essentially identical for bust dimes - 2X. Hence be very leery of referring to CDN as on average, a PCGS bust dime in 65 on average is a whole lot nicer than the NGC product. The NGC coin has serious downside should it be the bottom 50% of the MS65's graded.
One needs to be their own expert when venturing out into the world of MS65 NGC bust material. This is one area where the plastic doesn't help you......even in PCGS coins. The coin has to stand on its own merits unlike many other series that trade almost sight unseen in the holders. CDN is for nice, sight seen bust coins, holders don't help except for the unitiated.

Just some thoughts. But on trade dollars in MS66, NGC has the edge. Go figure.

Thanks for the tip. Just for everyone's info I think the CDN is pretty on point with NGC Bust Dimes, particularly the 1827 MS65.

These are the last 3 prices for 1827 NGC MS65 Dimes that sold on Heritage:

I checked through those 3 auctions listed. The bottom 2 coins are the same one, the Pittman coin. Interesting that the Pittman coin brought $16,000 in 1997 and then in 2003 this same coin realizes under $7000. Coin looks cleaned and not very choice. Could the orig purchaser have been thinking "proof" when they stepped up to pay $16K? A year later in 2004 it brought $9700. The coin didn't get any nicer and I suspect it got battled down by some newbies fighting over it. I look at the $9700 price as an anomoly attributed to auction fever.

The NGC coin at $7187 appears to be more typical of what is in NGC holders. The obv is fairly lustrous though with some facial hits.
The reverse is sort of darkish and subdued.

The PCGS pops on this date are 1/3 of what NGC has graded in MS65.
