Can Set Composition/Weighting Change?

Does PSA ever re-visit a set to possibly weigh it differently? I know in a few sets that I'm collecting that certain cards are harder to attain than others, but yet the weighing doesn't seem to denote this. Does PSA originally weigh sets/cards on star power alone or scarcity?

From what I've read it's based on value in PSA 8.
A few set weights were changed recently creating a bit of an uproar from some of the participants.

Gosteelers I think it is mainly star power and if a card is from a scarce series it can be weighted higher then the others. I do not think that low pops are included in the factor. as Anthony said it is based on PSA 8 too.

a common is usually wghted 1.00

a common from a hi or scarce series usually gets 1.50

minor stars can get depending on series 2.00 or 3.00 etc.

it is mostly star power from what i have seen.

I do not know if they revisit and re weigh main stream sets.

I have heard and seen them do it though for player sets.

I hope i have answered your questions correctly. If not i am sure someone will jump in.

If PSA is presented with a good enough reason, they will reweight cards in a set. Sometimes it's obvious, such as when the "No Line" variations from 1959 Topps were weighted as commons even though SMR had them being far more expensive than the common version. If it's something more complex than that, they often ask for input from those who have registry sets in the set to be affected.

Just because a card hasn't graded out well in a particular set will not change the "weighting". The "weighting" is based on the original print run and star power.

I requested a weight change to the Post-War HOF set a few months back ('61 Williams from 1 to 2) and it was implemented shortly thereafter.

I send in revisions to the NFL HOF RC set every year based on price changes for PSA 8 cards...As long as it is warranted, PSA will make the change.

The only measurable i know that PSA recognizes is the PSA 8 SMR pricing. As wrong as most of the prices are, that is the only definite criteria. Anything additional (star power, scarcity) is going to be a judgement call by PSA. Couldn't hurt to ask them though.

Not having access to the SMR...I propose for instance do all common cards say in a particular year in a particular series (if the set has different series") have the same value in PSA 8??
