Extreme Collecting -TRIFECTA style!

Extreme? Trifecta? What is this about?

Well when you complete a trifecta in the hobby - you've hit the extreme jackpot. A trifecta consist of 3 serial numbered cards that are the 1st # (#1/xxx); your player's jersey # (jersey #/xxx); and Last number in print run (xxx/xxx)?!? If you have ever tried this - you know how difficult it is to complete. There are million of cards that are serial numbered and to find all 3 parts of a trifecta for any card is -- simply amazing.

I just finished hitting a trifecta jackpot on 10/11/05 -
it's the 2004 SP Game Used Significamce Gold #SIGMA (#/10)-- pictured below! The red background on which the serial numbers are printed on makes it hard to see, but believe it or not it's a trifecta! The story behind this particular trifecta included both luck and aggrevation. The 1st part of the story #10/10 was simple enough - I bought this at a time when Brunell was benched in the latter half of the 2004 Redskins season. The 2nd part was #8/10 which was advertised on ebay as "#6/10" with a digital camera shot that made the serial # unclear. To make matters worse, after 3 weeks of not recieving this card and seeing the seller get hit with several new negative feedbacks in a span of one week, I was afraid I was never going to get the card. It turned out the seller had surgery and was hospitalized for 10 days and was still recovering. The good part was he was 200% healthier after the surgery and I got my "#6/10" soon there after. As luck would have it, the serial number was actually "#8/10" - amazingly lucky! The last part of the trifecta puzzle was #1/10 - I informed the seller I wouldn't be able to bid on it because it ended at a time when I wasn't near my computer (I don't use auction sniper programs either) and tried, but couldn't work out a deal. Luckily a friend of mine won it and I got it from him. However, he strongly believes that there was a shill bid placed on behalf of the seller and upon further review - it looks like it. In the end, the trifecta was complete and I'm happy though it was touch and go at times trying to complete this one.

Or getting a 1/1 of somebody with uniform #1 sweeps the trifecta. LOL

I've never card much about getting first, last, or jersey #, although I have picked up a few that match part of this description. I did have a Roberto Alomar jersey card #12/12 (12 being his jersey #) that I traded away.

I own the #1 of 100 1999 Bowman Chrome Rafael Furcal International Refractor card, and since his jersey # is 1, I'm 2/3 of the way there...
    Who is Rober Maris?

Here's another completed one: 2004 SP Game Used Edition Authentic Fabrics Dual Autograph of Mark Brunell and Drew Bledsoe #1/50, #8/50 and #50/50 - almost got the Grand Slam on this one, but since Brunell's college jersey # is the same as Bledsoe's pro # - I think a Bledsoe fan has it. If I had the #11/50 - that would be COOL! Anyway here's the pic.

Will have another one completed by Nov 5, 2005 - incoming is the #11/11! YOOHOO! Nice birthday gift to myself!
