Getting my 70s sub ready... edit- RESULTS!!!!!

I'm contemplating sending these in under the 70s special soon. I'm waiting for my membership package in the mail so I can send off my freebies (which I haven't decided on yet) at the same time.

Anyways, what do you all think these will grade?

70 OJ, 72 Riggens, 72 Alzado

77 Largent, 79 Campbell, 78 Stallworth

And a few low end baseball cards...
72 Kingman, 75 Fingers, 77 Clark

76 Eck

The Kingman card has 3 rough edges, is that typical of 1972 Topps, or is this just a damaged card?

Is it worth it to get the Ecks. graded if it is not going to pull at least an 8?

The OJ, Riggins, and Alzado look nice. . .tho one corner on the Riggins may be touched.

The Largent, Campbell, and Stallworth are probably somewhere between a 7 and 8.

    72 Kingman is probably a 7. . .75 Fingers maybe an 8. . .Clark looks like a 7 or a 7PD. . .and the 76 Eck is probably a 7. I wouldn't send in any of the baseball stuff you put up.

The Football is all nice, the OJ looks like an 8, Riggins 7-8, Alzado looks great, 8-9.

    Largent-7, Campbell-8, Stallworth-7

I wouldn't bother with any of the baseball either, the fingers might get an unqualified 7. The Eck, Kingman and Clark are not worth submitting IMO.

    Just my .02

I have an OJ, Alzado and Riggins all in 8 holders, and those (from the scans at least) look as good as mine, the Alzado looks better.

Yeah, I was kinda "iffy" on the baseball stuff. I thought the Fingers looked pretty sharp though, despite the print dots.

Back in the day, the #1 quality I looked for in cards were corners, edges, and surface. The less "damage", the better. Centering didn't really bug me unless it was ugly or miscut. It seems that these days, centering is the #1 factor in determining a card's condition. I had always figured that undamaged vintage cards would be harder to find since they were usually handled by kids, put in pockets, bikes, etc. But, with all the "big kids" opening up vintage stuff these days, I guess physical condition isn't as prime of a factor anymore for anything past 1971, since there’s a lot of "pack fresh" material floating around these days.

Still, I'm excited to send in some of my SF Giants from the 60s in to see how I did. That's what my club submissions will probably mostly consist of.

I just sent in about 25 1970 and '71 baseball cards that I have been holding... waiting for a $5 special to include them! About time! Can't wait for the results. Good luck to you!

i had a special ready to go in September, but i didnt send it in.. I have a sub ready to go now, but i wont send it in..

i'm still waiting on cards from my August special, so when they post those grades, i'll send another order in.. until then, PSA is going to be at least 1 order short of what they couldve had..

i would like to send in a sub now, but im about to go out of town in the next few days and wont be back until the end of the month.. if i havent heard from PSA before i leave, it will be another month that they get no business from me..

I got my 70s special before I even got my Club freebie subs! Didn't expect that... well.....

    1970 OJ Simpson..... PSA 9!!!!!!!!
    1972 John Riggins.... PSA 7
    1972 Lyle Alzado.... PSA 8
    1977 Steve Largent.... PSA 8
    1978 John Stallworth.... PSA 7
    1979 Earl Campbell .... PSA 8

Obviously, I'm totally jazzed about the Simpson, all of these cards were purchased raw on Ebay. I kinda hoped the Alzado would land a 9, but oh well. I picked up the OJ on Ebay about 5 years ago when I was collecting recent HoFers. The OJ looked so nice, I was sure it was fake, or trimmed, or something. Fortunatly, I was totally wrong. :-) Guess there are some diamonds in the rough, eah?

I'm interested to see what my club submissions end up getting....

Edit: Oh, in case anyone was wondering..

Congrats on the OJ. Always nice to snag a good deal, especially raw, off the bay.

FYI, SMR is $100 or so on the OJ, but I paid $130 for mine and it's pretty common for them to run $120+

    Nice pickup!

The Largent in an 8 is a great card too!

I paid $49 for the raw Simpson back in '01 or '02. Nice to see that the PSA grade has added some serious value to that investment!

The Online SMR says the OJ's $450 at PSA 9. Either way, I did pretty good with it.

Awesome. The OJ looked beautiful in the scan. The Largent is great and it looks to be dead centered.

    Good Stuff.

Oops. You are correct, I looked at SMR for an 8. I forgot I haven't upgraded mine from an 8 yet. image
