Between 1925 to 1949 these were considered a scarce coin quite sought after by collectors.
The post war demand for sovereigns and rise of counterfeits in Europe prompted the Royal Mint to once again produce some sovereigns which they did in 1949, 1951 and 1952. All of these were dated 1925. This caused "some consternation" amongst collectors.
There are two different references on how to differentiate.
One says there is a slightly wider rim in the re-strikes, the other says there is a slightly higher rim, the later is the one that seems correct but not 100% sure of it.
