Very interesting one year type coin--Guess the mint!!

I found this coin at my dealers shop. A one year type, a big silver coin with a nice design on it, it came home with me. My husband thinks Wilhelmina looks like the fairy Godmother in Shrek 2image I decided I needed to know a little more about her, and went looking for information. I found out something very interesting. Anyone know where this coin was struck?image

Without looking in any catalogues, I would say minted in the US, Philadelphia?

    Denver Mint, USA.

Nice coin! I really like those. image

There's a 1 guilden that goes with it which is much harder to find in Unc.
  • Denver. Newsman beat me to it. I often find myself a day late and a dollar short

This one was minted in Denver, but the coin was also minted in Philly and Utrecht (no idea where that is). The D is on the right side of the reverse in between the dots. I had heard of the US minting coins for other countries, but had never heard of it minting for Curacao before.

So did I post the coin in the wrong forum?image Should I post it on the US forum and watch the fireworks?image

It's interesting that Krause says the 1941-43 Curacao coins were minted in Philadelphia and the 1944 ones were minted in Denver.

Post it on the US coin forum and tell them it's a territorial issue. image

<< <i>I had heard of the US minting coins for other countries, but had never heard of it minting for Curacao before. >>

Being a Dutch colony, Curacao got all its coinage from The Netherlands. During the Nazi occupation, many of the Dutch colony coins were minted in the US.

Now an important question: where is this listed in Krause?image

Let's go to the US coin forum and demand a registry set. imageimage

That would be some registry set, because the US has minted so many coins for so many different countries it isn't funny. Can someone tally that up for us again? I think it was the subject of a previous thread a while back.

  • Is the US mint currently producing coins for other countries? For many years they weren't. I've lost my copy of the government publication listing world coins produced at US mint, so I can't help you with the number of different coins or countries.

I don't have it handy, but I believe the trusty old Redbook has a listing of non-U.S. coins minted by the U.S. Mint....

Unless it has been added in the last year, that info is not in the Red Book
