I was wondering how long it would take for all the so called baseball fans in here to come out of the woodwork and start taking their "baby" shots at the playoffs because NY or Boston aren't playing. That was last year get over it. True fans of the sport will be tuned in as at least two of the teams have a chance to win their first world series. News flash for some of you, most of the country isn't fans of the 2 teams that lost in the American League playoffs. Get over yourselves and enjoy. You both had great seasons, enjoy that and watch the rest of the playoffs unfold.

Finally the rest of the country can enjoy the series!
Loves me some shiny!
True fans would also know that 3 of the 4 teams have already won a World Series. Even a Red Sox fan knows that.
Go Cardinals...

1917 doesn't count.
I'd certainly prefer a White Sox/Cardinals WS over either of the other teams. Both teams bring so much history to the game.
I wonder what time the games will start. Can't remember what happened the last time none of the teams were in EST. Rightfully, the eventual WS games should start at 8:00ish local time, but I don't think t.v. will allow it. I certainly don't remember SF/Angels games starting at 11:00 EST. Another reason to be annoyed with the east coast programming bias I guess.
What about them Yankees. ESPN still says they are going to the World Series - although they were eliminated.
So, can someone please confirm for me that the Cardinals are still playing because this great team can't seem to get any attention at all?
I live for this time of baseball season. Go to the garage, enjoy a cigar and watch some great baseball, without the East Coast bias.
Remember these Chuck Norris Facts
1. When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn't lifting himself up, he's pushing the Earth down
2. According to Einstein's theory of relativity, Chuck Norris can actually roundhouse kick you yesterday
3. There are no such things as lesbians, just women who have not yet met Chuck Norris
On a side note it has to be agony for a Cub fan to think that the Cards and White Sox might be in the World Series.

On the contrary, I think it would be perfect. A win by either team (STL or CWS) would hopefully put a great sense of urgency into the Cubs front office to win one championship.
Think about it, all these years, the CHC have blasted STL for being a "small market" that can't compete financially with Chicago, and for STL to win would make Cubs management stick its foot in its mouth. And if the CWS win....then all of those years of inferiority complex would go down the drain and the Cubs would look like even larger losers.
Either way, it forces the Cubs to wake up by placing a match under its ass. And it probably gets all of those idiot Wrigley fans to wake up and realize that their team has stunk for nearly 100 years and that the Old Style doesn't taste that great in the "Beer Garden".

And what's the draw to watching poker on TV? That to me seems as boring as anything...isn't the fun in poker playing?
Which is not to say it isn't annoying. Believe me, even we (in Boston) find it annoying when the Yankees always get the prime starting times, more national games, the lead story on espn, the most airtime etc etc. And to the rest of the country, if it isn't the Yankees, then it's the Red Sox, and if it isn't the Red Sox, then it's the Cubs. And on down the line.
I'd like to think a post season like this would bring interest in more teams to more cities, create excitement about different players and all that jazz. But I doubt it. Realistically, I expect lowest t.v. ratings for the W.S. in years, low advertising revenues, and t.v. execs entering next season again hoping (and hyping) for Boston or N.Y. to make it to the end. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Who knows about the start times. I just think it will be a huge injustice to the home fans if they start W.S. games at 5:00 PST, just so they're on in prime time back here. The fans deserve the 8:00 start, local time, regardless. But there's just no way Fox starts a world series game at 11:00 on the east coast for these very reasons - because it isn't Boston/NY, they have to in this case cator to the cities outside of the teams actually playing, to make it as easy as possible for them to get into the games.
<< <i>I understand the comments about "east coast bias", but I think what many of you consider bias is really just simple business logic. Don't forget, Boston and N.Y. are probably the two biggest baseball markets in the country. And there are far more displaced Red Sox and Yankee fans throughout the country than fans of other teams outside their home cities. They're on t.v. in the prime spots because more people in the country, across the whole country, do in fact care about those teams than any others. It's as simple as that. More people would be watching either of those teams, more people = more coverage = more preference from the networks = more expensive advertising to sell = more $$. It may seem unfair or biased, but ultimately it's just smart financial marketing.

I'm not sure if I buy into this or not...ESPN for a few years (especially ESPN) has been overhyping the Boston-NY rivalry (hey, ESPN hyping something? Say it ain't so!)
But it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy - when all you do is show Boston/NY games, you are going to think that's all people care about. As I mentioned elsewhere, after NY (#1 media market), we still have LA (#2), Chicago (#3), and Houston (#4) left in the playoffs, and St. Louis fans are as passionate as they come in America....I think the ratings will be strong, and I'd like to see ESPN's excuses for continuing to show Boston/NY games nearly exclusively next year.
My opinion, simply -
I'm certain there are (significantly) more fans of both the Yankees and Red Sox than any other team in the country. Therefore, more people will watch those teams in more cities, which creates the most advertising revenue for the networks. That's all. It's not a bias. There's no favoritism because most ESPN employees live in Boston and New York or whatever was suggested. It's just $$. When those teams are in it, more people watch, they make more money. On any given night during the baseball season, there are more people watching Sportscenter to see what happened to the Red Sox or Yankees than any other team, so they lead with those teams. It's not a chicken-egg thing where you could argue the coverage and hype created the popularity in the first place. It's been that way long before espn (or t.v. in general, for that matter) existed. They're just capitalizing on it.
Yes, no doubt Cardinals fans are as passionate as they come, but I'd bet there are more people in the Boston metro area alone that will watch a 1:00 pre-season weekday Sox game than there are Cardinals fans across the country that will be watching game 1 of the NLCS. Well, maybe that's an exaggeration for the Cardinals or White Sox - I think all real baseball fans of all generations have interest in those teams - but certainly for the Astros or Angels.
My point is more about programming decisions - what stories lead, what games get national coverage, how games are scheduled etc.
NLCS Cardinals in 5
ALCS White Sox in 5
WS Cardinals in 4
White Sox in 7
Astros in 7
White Sox in 7
All 7's.
EDITED TO ADD: Those of you who don't watch the Postseason just because Boston or NY are not in them better get used to it. The Halos are going to be around for awhile.
steve
However, of the 4 teams, I think the Astros are the most interesting. They got some veterans, like Biggio, that finally deserve to cap their careers with a ring. I like Clemens, but he already accomplished everything there is. Biggio winning the WS with the Astros would be sweet. I may watch just because of him.
