1972-TYPE # 2- MS 64 POPULATION.....

image My guess is that the TRUE ms 64 population is 65 to 70 coins, and not 107 ( pcgs population )

I personally sent in five ms64 coins for re-grade, and ALL failed. They came back as MS64. I suppose that many, many others have been sent in as well as mine.

Unless you cracked them out, the population report would be corrected for these.

    What dbldie says is correct.

Due to the price difference between 64 and 65 Type 2's.....I would guess that there have been
several of the "upper" 64's that WERE cracked out to try to get a 65. Unless the people turned in the tabs afterward,
the pops would be inflated in 64.

I cracked out a 64 and 2 MS63's. I even sent the 64 for presidential review after it came back again as a 64. Tough crowd! I bet it's because PCGS has the grading guarantee and it would cost a lot if it was made a 65 and later failed their "new" grading standards. Ray

What would be a fair paying price for a PCGS MS 65 for a collector. I have gone to several auction house prices realized and can't find any MS 65s. Any input would be appreciated.

    Touchdown,

Most of the 72-P Type 2's in PCGS MS65 have been traded privately. A few have been sold on eBay.
Segoja had one a eBay awhile back (maybe a year ago?) and
I think it went for around $3,500. I know of (5) more that went via direct sales for $3,500 since then.
If you turn on your PM function, I can give you some more specifics and maybe help you locate one.image
