He may have saved the award for Big Papi based on the last 10 days of the season, and this series!

Bonds was ridiculed for years until he had a breakout post season in '02, the same will happen with A-Rod. Hopefully later rather than sooner.

Or, he could end up like Mr. May (Dave Winfield)!
And as someone mentioned, would they even have gotten to the postseason without him?
Why do people hate him so much? Is that $25 million per year his fault? And would any one of us here have turned it down? Yeah he had a bad postseason, but does that lessen his overall value to a team?
<< <i>Or, he could end up like Mr. May (Dave Winfield)! >>
Who ended up getting a World Series clinching double in the 11th inning of game 6 against the Braves in '93. So yes, I hope he is exactly like Winfield. No championships with the Yanks, gets dumped leading to years of futility for the Yanks and then comes up big with his next team.
I'd agree with in the other thread where he's one of the most overrated players of this generation.
that was a good one!
Arod has always been like that. Most of his numbers are not clutch anyway.
Softparade - do you really need Arod? Seems to me the Yankees did just fine with Hayes, Boggs, and Brosius ...
Is Arod cursed? He does wear #13 ....

One could say the same about McNabb....never clutch, never won the big game...

Good point. I should have clarified that he was Mr. May on the Yankees.
Kinda like Kenny Rogers. In New York, he had the big contract, sucked, and was cut loose. He did pretty well after that (punching the camerman notwithstanding).
whatever axtell.

Of course the Twins were about to dispatch the Yanks in the ALDS in '04 until Rodriguez bailed them out with his 12th inning game tying double in Game 2.
Complain all you want about A-Rod, he certainly earned your scorn with his play this series. Don't let his last two post-season series cloud your judgement on who the Yanks of the future should be built around. I'm sure Theo would still love to trade Manny for Alex straight up.
<< <i>the same thing is said about McNabb on these boards.
whatever axtell. >>
Well isn't it true?
I mean you're slamming arod for not performing in the postseason, but how many times has McNabb come up short? I don't get that...and you aren't the only one here onthis board to do this (slam a player/team for something their own player/team does).
I mean it took McNabb 3 tries to even win the championship game, then still came up short in the super bowl. If you're going to bag Arod for not performing this postseason, you should be just as willing to do so with McNabb.
<< <i>And this supposed mystique that Jeter is 'clutch' in the playoffs makes me sick....he hits no better in the playoffs than he does in the regular season, they are nearly identical. >>
You are right. Jeter is clutch in the regular season AND the playoffs. Still, he is overpaid relative to his overall production.
Actually, A-Rod is a screaming bargain for the Yankees. Few remember that Texas pays $9 million of his $25 million annual salary, so $16 million is a good deal for the numbers he put up. The Yanks pay less for A-Rod than for Jeter, Giambi, or Mussina.
A-Rod and his last at bat: Double Play.
That was his 609th at bat this season.
A-Rod earned $42,208.73 cents on that ground-ball-double play-killed-any-chance-of-a-comeback.

Also the Yankees have spent $809,895,262 since their last WS. If they don't win it next year, it'll be well over one billion dollars!

I posted an article about the alleged A-Rod Curse and everyone got on my case. Maybe he should rethink his number
<<Some will ask, why add another curse to the Yankees? after all, they've had one since 1973, when George Steinbrenner bought the team.>>
Funny, since 1973 the Yankees have won 6 World Series, 8 Pennants, and 12 Division titles. Sounds like a real curse to me.
