Does anybody make a darkside type album?

Like a Dansco or a Whitman? I have an old Panama type set from Whitman and have been thinking about putting together a South American Type set by country..

The closest I know of is a Dansco album:

    Dansco's Stock # 7011

    Coins of the World
    5 pages for minor coins
    10¢ to 50¢ in size

They make specific albums for Australian coins and Canadian Maple Leafs also.

The short answer is no; however, Dansco does have:

Dansco Album 7010, Crowns of the World 5 pages
Dansco Album 7011, Coins of the World 10 cent to 50 cent size
    Dansco Album 7400, European Coinage

A couple of years ago I was in London and Bath. In both areas I asked about type set albums for UK coins and they looked at me like I had two heads. I have an old album, covering farthings to six-pence, which I received as a gift from Syracusian (thanks again Dimitri), but apparently no one has produced type set albums for UK coins in decades. I doubt if anyone ever produced one for what you're looking to do. You can get Dansco to make a custom album for you, but I believe it would be prohibitively expensive.

  • I picked up some coin albums at the Dollar store (should have bought them all because now they have not had them any more) I used 1 FOR Great Britain and Canadian, 1 for Mexican ,German, and the other for Misc coins, a 2x2 flip fits perfect, if you have a local dollar store check them out ,just a idea , also there are some on Ebay same type for around $5.00

What is the best album to use with 2 x 2 holders?

I have my coins in 2 x 2 Saflip holders and it would be nice to put them in a hard folder (without removing them from the 2 x 2s)

What I did was buy a few really nice 3 ring binders and some 3 ring, plastic pocket sheets that hold 2x2's and put my coins in those. You don't have to take the coins out if the 2x2's and it works very well. You can find some of those pocket sheets in ebay. I will put my coins in one sheet and then take another sheet and place an insert with the coin info in it. Like this:

I used to use same thing, but I was thinking of getting something with hard pages (if it exists). Do you know of anything out there that's a "hard page" but which you can put the 2 x 2s into?

Yes so ask your dealer about doing a special order...
  • The only album I have found was a 20th century silver type set for the UK, but those Dansco's sound interesting. I also put my 2x2's in a binder but I like the idea from MSD61 of inserting extra sheets to add the comment card. I just wish I had the time to fill in all the details!

Check with photograghy shops or phoograghy supplers. There used to be pages like you are describing for holding slides.

Love the idea, especially the descriptions on the left and coins on the right. In fact, I loved the idea so much, I bought the company! image

I've been wanting a better way to display my collection than double-row boxes.

Just ordered a cactusload of saflips, inserts, and pages.

For the binders, I opted to go with something a little more spiffy. Amosadvantage.com (if you subscribe to World Coin News, Linns, or any other of their pubs you qualify for membership) has very nice padded 3-ring binders in dark blue or burgondy, with slipcases (!) for $16.99. Dirt cheap compared to what stamp/coin binder+slipcase sets normally cost.

    Thanks for the idea!

  • We don't go in for type set albums, or any other kind of albums in the US sense. Don't you worry about coins toning?

We like coin trays round these parts, or at least the dealers do. Failing that it's one of the albums pictured by MSD61. I personally do not like those though due to some problems in the past with PVC. I won't take any chances, even if it says it's PVC free. Refuse to use 2x2s either.
