2006 NFL HOF Inductee

It may be a little early to think about, but who are the favorites to be inducted in the 2006 HOF class? So far, Rayfield Wright and John Madden were nominated for the older players, but about about the players that are eligible for the 1st time? I know that Aikman and Reggie White are, but who else is out there? I'm asking because I'm trying to buy the HOF rc's for the set registry and already have Wright, White and Aikman. Any thoughts?

    Greg,

Here are some of the other 1st time eligibles for 2006...

    Warren Moon
    Dermontti Dawson
    Andre Reed
    Thurman Thomas
    Irving Fryar
    Cortez Kennedy
    Neil Smith

After Reggie White and Aikman, I think this is the order of likelyhood...Moon, Thomas, Dawson, Reed, Kennedy, Smith, Fryar

Moon will get in. Thomas SHOULD be first ballot, but this is a tough year so its not a guarantee. Either Wright OR Dawson this year, not both...Reed and Fryar will be behind Monk and Irvin to get in...Kennedy and Neil Smith are long shots to ever make it...

Max is 6, so its going to be a year that guys who deserve to get in, won't...I think Madden gets in since he's been overlooked for so long..

This year will be very tough! Aikman, Moon, White, Thomas are locks. There may be 6 inductees this year.

    Others with strong consideration are...

Henry Carson ( finalist 6 years running )
Bob Kuechenberg ( finalist 4 years running )
George Young ( finalist 3 years running )
Richard Dent ( finalist 2 years running )

    and ...

    L.C. Greenwood ( 5X nominee )
    Ray Guy ( 5X nominee )
    Lester Hayes ( 4X nominee )
    Gary Zimmerman ( 2X nominee )
    Claude Humphrey ( 2X nominee )

The other WR eligible (I believe) is Henry Ellard? What a bottleneck of WRs ... Irvin, Monk, Reed, Fryar and Ellard! James Lofton got in before Monk, so I don't think Monk necessarily gets in before any other - although he should.

With Reggie White on the ballot, it hurts Dent's, Greenwood's and any other defensive lineman's chances.

This should be a full class of 6 this year. I'd say 4 from the first-time eligible: Aikman, Moon, Thomas, and White. Then maybe 2 more guys who have been overlooked for a while. I don't know, there's many deserving candidates.
    Monk? (deserves it)
Guy? (THE benchmark for his position)
Dent? (As much as I love the guy being a Bears fan and all, he's hurt by the comparison to White and Smith)
Carson? (That letter last year couldn't have helped him)

Another I almost forgot: Derrick Thomas. I thought he was going to get in last year, but he's a possibility as well. He absolutely dominated.

I think there will be some "clean-up" in 2007 & 2008 to get some deserving linemen and other overlooked players in, when the first time eligible class is weak.

Darrell Green didn't retire until after the 2002 season. So, he'll be eligible for the 2008 HOF class.

Ray Guy has got to get in. He is the best punter of All-Time. As for the rest I agree that Aikman, White, Thomas and Moon are for sure in on this ballot. Can you imagine Moon's #'s if he never was in the CFL. I know they have 110 yard field and less talent but he threw for 21,000 yds 144 TD and 77 INT. He threw for 5000+ yds in consecutive seasons. Just nutz.

But the senior who deserve to get in are Rayfield Wright, hands down. It sucks he has had to wait this long.

The other two in my mind are Ray Guy and Harry Carson. Can't believe Guy is outside the Hall this long.

You can have 7, if one of them is a senior eligible.

    I'll predict 6:

    Aikman
    White
    Madden
    Moon
    Guy
    Thomas

I think the WRs cancel each other out.

I do agree there is a HUGE bottleneck of WR. I still have no idea why a WR was not selected last year... I was really rooting for Monk, especially because of the glut of WRs that will become eligible between now and 2010. Besides the WR's listed above, there will be several premier WRs that will become eligible (including Cris Carter, Jerry Rice, Tim Brown, ect...).

It makes you wonder whether any prior year finalists/nominees will be elected.
