414 FRANK THOMAS NO NAME ON FRONT 4 5 11 23 0 65 0 16 0 0 124 looks like 65 8's 16 9's and the big zip on 10's . I remember these being a real tough pull and probably will cost you about 200 or so raw? Thats probably being on a good day!
I also remember something about the way they were distributed. Were they only available in Factory sets or am I off on this? Any idea what the total print run on this error is?
I heard from his sisters best friends cousins uncles granny that Ferris was dying of a disease...Anywho I have a NNOF Thomas, paid 100 for it at a flea market around here around 3 months ago.
There are quite a few counterfeit NNOF Thomas rookies out there. Occasionally, you'll find some surface on eBay, but they're almost always fake. If you're thinking about purchasing a NNOF Thomas raw, be very careful. Do your homework and learn how to spot the fake NNOF version.

of course, it's best to purchase one already PSA graded & authenticated..
I agree on the Thomas rarity - one of the common but crude alterations to make the card was to paint over the name - but you can see how the card fluoresces differently.
And I can't find a picture of one but isn't the black line border incomplete also - which makes counterfeiting really hard.
Finally, I remember reading rumors that the card never made it to packs or sets. They picked up on the error immediately and pulled the sheets. From there, some of them were "backdoored" and cut up - then sold as errors.
The left border is the key to spotting a fake from what I've heard. Years ago when it was a $1500 card, a guy wrote into Beckett, saying he was a printer and he explained his theory of what happened. Basically, a printing guide (a strip of paper or cardboard) slipped and blocked the black printing plate from hitting the surface on what was probably a few hundred cards. So all black is absent within the lines. In the scan bob provides, his arm has a line running through it, too, but I've never seen that before, and it's not matching up with the line from border to border. The other question is what exactly is going on in this picture? Who was Auburn playing that day, Little leaguers? And what position was Frank playing? Assuming he was at first base with third straight away in the background, did he take a pickoff throw from right field or something? How do you tag some behind the left knee from the right side? And since it looks like a close play, why is Frank so calm looking? There's more going on in this photo than is immediately apparent.

I have a real NNOF Thomas slabbed and purchased a fake one on eBay last year. When comparing the two, the fake is very easy to spot. The real NNOF Thomas has a small "r" copyright trademark next to the Topps logo next to the Converse sneaker of the baserunner. On the counterfeit NNOF, that small "r" is a blurred blob of pixels instead of a clean stamp on the authentic card.
I returned the counterfeit NNOF to the seller, but a week later the card was back on eBay and snapped up by someone else. In the last year or so, I've seen the same seller offer at least 3-4 fake NNOF raw Thomases.
That reminds me of a conversation I had at a card show during the early frenzy about this card. At the time very few high grade cards were being offered and the exmts were going for several hundred dollars. A fellow collector and I were discussing the card, and how many there might be out there. I mentioned that to my knowledge Topps NEVER gave us print run information, and I was also curious as to why there were so few nice examples. A dealer at a nearby table got very angry with me, telling me to stop criticizing the card, he had sold one for $800.00 and the buyer was very happy. I said I was happy for them, but that didn't change my opinion. He got really pissed off and I walked away. It would seem that we still don't know much about this card.

<< <i>i bet bobsbbcards can tell us whatever we want to know about the card.. >>
I'll bet he can't either (or is it neither).
I've got one (see scan), but I don't really know anything about it.
