<<< Emmit Smith is the most overrated athlete in sports history. >>>

Most yards rushing in NFL history and that is being overrated? You gotta be kiddin'? I think the problem is Emmitt made it look easy - that isn't overrated. Were those other backs you mentioned better than Emmitt? Probably. But that still doesn't make Emmitt overrated.

Can't believe I'm defending a Cowboy. Must be that stupid picture below doing it.

Namath was not overrated... he was just alittle different. He was the QB at Alabama and did well there.

  • << <i><<< Joe Namath is the most overrated QB in the history of the NFL. He won the one super bowl. What else did he do?? If he hadn't played in New York, no one would even think about him when they mentioned the greatest QB's of all-time. >>>

This statement is totally absurd. If anything I think Namath is underrated. He had little talent on that Super Bowl team and carried that team to the win. Did you ever watch the replay of that game? - some of the finest pinpoint passing I have ever seen. With some real talent behind him, in my opinion Namath would have won other Super Bowls as well. >>

Totally absurd huh? Why isn't Fran Tarketon ever mentioned in the same sentence with football fans as Joe Namath. Because of the ONE Super Bowl win. The win was very historical, but Joe Namath did not come close to the stellar career of Fran Tarketon.
Collecting vintage material, currently working on 1962 topps football set.
  • but like CARDSFAN pointed out, he did wear that fur coat on the sidelines.....

Fran Tarkenton was great. By anyone who knows football, he is a highly esteemed player the likes of Namath. Maybe even better.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!

Hey - the thread was about being "overrated' - in my opinion Joe Namath is not overrated by any stretch of the imagination. Anyway...comparing Tarkenton to Namath is like comparing apples and oranges as far as quarterbacks go. You won't see me knocking Fran Tarkenton, but he was on much more talented teams than Namath's Jets teams.
